So you would rather we named him after someone who, due to a life support malfunction, is accidentally frozen for 504 years before the derelict spacecraft is discovered drifting in space in the year 2491. The combination of gases that froze his body coincidentally comes close to the formula commonly used in the 25th century for cryopreservation, and his rescuers are able to revive him. He learns that civilization on Earth was rebuilt following a devastating nuclear war that occurred on November 22, 1987, and is now under the protection of the Earth Defense Directorate?

Gareth Bale branded Liverpool's Charlie Adam "a coward" after the Tottenham winger fell victim to a heavy challenge during a pre-season friendly in Baltimore.

Bale limped from the pitch following the tackle and was forced to leave the stadium on crutches on Saturday. The incident comes after Bale was sidelined for three months in 2011 after a similarly tough challenge from Adam, which left him with ankle ligament damage.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas also criticised Adam's "nasty challenge" after the match, fearing Bale may miss the start of the Premier League season.

"From what I've seen of him on pitch, I think he's a bit of a coward," Bale is quoted as saying in several English newspapers.

"I was surprised to see a challenge like that in a friendly. We're all over here to build our fitness and get a good workout and what he did as over the top, to be honest.

"But some people are like that and it's just wrong. My ankle is sore - very, very sore. We'll have to wait and see how it goes. I'll probably have to have a scan.

"There are pictures on the internet of what he did before when he snapped all my ankle ligaments. I was out for three months that time and one player told me he went out to do the same thing to me again. Seriously, I haven't ever done anything to him. He's obviously come for me twice now - and he's got me twice.

"I would have understood it had it been a slightly mistimed tackle, even though it was just a friendly. But the ball was 10 yards past him already and was nowhere near him when he came through my ankle."

The match with Liverpool ended goalless, while Bale remains in serious doubt ahead of Spurs' next friendly against New York Red Bulls as the club continues its pre-season tour of the United States.

The Wales international, meanwhile, insists he will not accept an apology should Adam come forward to speak to him about the incident.

"When someone makes a very bad tackle on you in a game you expect him to come up and apologise. But I've had no apology from him and I don't really want one from him to be honest. That's what kind of person he is like. He's done it before, so I'm not going to accept his apology.

"All I want to do is play my game and play it the right way. It's flattering when players try to take you out in a game but when it threatens your career, it becomes more serious than that. It's unsportsmanlike and I don't think any player should be like that," said Bale.

It was a typical Adam tackle though and the sort that put us into trouble many times last season.

The comments by the Spurs players about the tackle are laughable. It really wasn't that bad. Ok it was late and mis-timed but so what? That kind of a tackle will happen at least about ten times a season probably more. Bale will recover probably in time for the first premiership game if not much sooner.

Adam is a limited player going forward and and he does need to improve his tackling in defensive areas of the pitch but there will be worse challenges than that coming up over the next few months.

Just seen the tackle and though i'll feel sorry for Bale if he is injured there is no way you can say that tackle had any malice in it.

That statement from Bale seems a little bit OTT, should add some spice at the next spurs match if they both play!
