Agger is made of glass and Skrtel had a good season after a few seasons of being average bordering on poor.  Last season Agger stayed relatively injury free for him and anytime I see Skrtel play alongside anyone else, including last season, he looks dodgy.

I think Skrtel is angling for a better contract and Agger seems to genuinely like the club, but if Barce came calling he still might be tempted.

My preference would be to keep both, but neither of them are irreplaceable. It wouldn't be a Torres/ Masch / Alonso like situation if we lost one of them but it would be a shame as they were just starting to look a good partnership (albeit depending on Agger's fitness).

I would have agreed had this been the time that we had Torres Alonso and Mascherano.
However now we have lost 3 top players and the position we are in is far more precarious.

The two of them together last season was one of the only plus points we could take from it.

I know the old adage no player is bigger than the club and agree that Aggers injury record before last season was poor and Skrtels form prior to last season was also shaky to say the least.

I just think if we lose one of them or both it leaves us with even more rebuilding.

The defence is the one area that i think we are steady.

My concern is that why are we selling our players? If they are doing a good job why shd we be selling? Skrtel is our player for the year last year. We r becoming like a selling team. No guarantee any replacement we get will be better. Especially after news that we received X amt for sale of Def. Surely potential targets price will be sky high knowing we need to buy.

We shd be looking at strengthening our gaps not destroying our stable core. Unless Skrtel's head is turned and put in a transfer request. If tat is the case let him go but not before that card is played.

we are going backwards, it`s alright having a well run club with a starting XI based around young players who arent big earners but at the end of the day with that philosophy you wont win anything.
the way we are going that carling cup win of kenny`s last season is going to seem like a golden age in a few years time.
it`s hard enough trying to keep hold of top players when your a club that cant realistically compete for the major prizes but when you start paying these top players below average wages as well then there is going to be an exodus.
this season is huge, at the moment we still have enough top players at the club to achieve something (reina, johnson, agger, skrtel, lucas, gerrard, suarez and even carroll), i just hope we do well enough this season to convince the owners that we arent far away and a bit of investment might take us to the top.

IF that is true, we're are going to become more and more like Arsenal every day, rather than league hopefuls  - Citeh.

FSG openly proclaimed Arsenal as the perfect model of a football club and it is how they want us to be run.

it is a perfect model in terms of making a profit and just being competative enough to keep your fans interested.
but in terms of on field success arsenal havent won a trophy in 7 years, as i said in an earlier post in a few years time that league cup win under dalglish is going to seem like a golden age.

So what do people want? The Man City/Chelsea model? We want a maverick billionaire who is prepared to absorb huge operating losses?

ideally yes, that seems to be the way to get success these days.
abramovitch and the arabs at city have taken a lot of stick but at least they bought the clubs to make them successful, they never bought the clubs to milk a few bob out of their fanbases. they want trophies, they are not interested in just being in the prem or the CL to pick up the tv money, they want to win it.
the plan our owners have for the long term just wont work, it`s pie in the sky to believe that a side based around young players on modest wages is going to challenge for the top prizes in the game, even if this moneyball philosophy does manage to unearth another gerrard or fowler he`ll soon want to f**k off to a club with ambition who`s offering  big wages. we`ll become another feeder club for the big teams above us.
we are going backwards mate, the back of the echo is rodgers saying he`ll do all he can to try to convince skrtel to stay, it`s a story thats getting all too familiar in recent seasons

Easy there, they mean dont expect to spend 80million of FSG money every season. They mean they want Liverpool to use Liverpools money.

I for one agree that is a good plan however best laid plans and all that.

no one expects them everytime a transfer window opens to start wheelbarrowing the cash in for the best players or to suddenly start paying wages of 200k.
of course the club wants to be self sufficent and spend in relation to profits.last year the club turned over almost $300mil usd so it remains to be seen how much of that they are willing to put back in and at a guess id say its no where near 30%.
they say they want us to be successful but the way they are going about it doesnt fill me with confidence.
