You know as well as the defence is perceived to have done this season, Im positive that if you counted up how many goals we conceded from set pieces it would be higher than any season under Rafael Benitez - and he got slaughtered constantly for his zonal marking but not a mention this year from the press

personally if it was me i`d have walked with kenny, he was part of the coaching staff and if the manager goes i think he should go too.
i certainly wouldnt have went to a baseball game with the bosses knowing that the manager was going home after being offered a resignation package.
ayres on the telly saying i`m all right jack the financial side is going great, clarkes eating hot dogs with the owners while kennys flying home after being told he`s up the road.....every man for himself at this club
it`s a long way away from what bill shankly said to bob, joe and reuben when he first got the job - i`m not going to sack you i`m going to keep you on, and i`m only going to ask for one thing from you....loyalty, not just to me but to each other, if someone comes to me telling tales they`ll be the one that goes.
if we are loyal to each other, and to this club, i guarentee we`ll be successful`

Steve Clarke's time appears to be up at Liverpool as Brendan Rodgers' Swansea staff join him at Anfield

Brendan Rodgers has begun his Liverpool reign by luring three of his Swansea City backroom team to Merseyside – paving the way for the departure of Anfield assistant manager Steve Clarke.

31 May 2012

Club owners Fenway Sports Group blocked his exit pending the outcome of their managerial search, but despite working together during their time at Chelsea, Rodgers has assembled his own team.
Clarke has managerial ambitions of his own so there will be mutual benefits to his leaving Anfield.

With Rodgers being a hands-on coach on the training pitch, it makes it difficult to find a vacancy for Clarke given that he handled most of the sessions under Dalglish. Swansea assistant manager Colin Pascoe and technical staff Chris Davies and Glen Driscoll have followed Rodgers to Anfield.

Compensation was agreed swiftly by Liverpool as FSG had no hesitation paying Swansea’s entitlement. The three backroom members will leave the Liberty Stadium for nominal fees on top of the £5 million agreed for Rodgers. Although Rodgers resisted the appointment of Dutchman Louis van Gaal as a sporting director during his Anfield talks, FSG have not abandoned a restructure of the technical and scouting staff.

For the 39-year-old manager there is a promise of a fresh start for all members of the Liverpool squad, including those who spent last season on loan. That offers a glimmer of hope for outcasts such as Joe Cole and Alberto Aquilani, two of Liverpool’s biggest earners who have failed to ignite their careers at Anfield.

When he takes his first training sessions at Melwood on July 11, Rodgers will discover a skeleton squad given most of the club’s established players will have extra time off due to Euro 2012 and the Olympics. Cole and Aquilani are likely to be among the early starters. Cole has stated his desire for a fresh start at Anfield, while Aquilani says he will talk to Rodgers to determine his immediate future.

“I need to understand whether there are conditions for an agreement that satisfies everyone,” said Aquilani. “We will meet in order to understand their plans. Only then will I be able to make the right decision.  'It is important that I have the opportunity to make a contribution, to be able to play well and play regularly.”

Liverpool had an agreement to sell Aquilani for £6 million if he started 25 games in Serie A last season, but the Italian narrowly missed the target.

Since then, Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has been trying to reduce the fee, but Rodgers will want to see the 27 year-old in action before sanctioning any cut-price moves.

Given Rodgers’ clearly defined footballing philosophy there will be inevitable focus on the futures of high profile members of the current Anfield squad, but the new manager is keen to make his own judgements.

There will be no preconceptions about the likes of Andy Carroll or Stewart Downing, two of the biggest signings who struggled to repay their huge transfer fees.

Carroll ended last season in such excellent form he has earned his place in the Euro 2012 squad and he will have to adapt his game still further to prove he can fit into Rodgers’ system.

A grim week for Swansea City has been made worse with Hoffenheim confirming Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has not yet committed himself to the Premier League side.

A Swansea statement earlier this week said the club were delighted to have agreed terms with the player and club following Sigurdsson’s successful loan spell last season.

It was believed the 22 year-old would be joining the Swansea for a fee of £6.8 million subject to a medical.

However, as Rodgers was completing his move to Liverpool, the Bundesliga club made it known that contracts had not been signed, insisting Sigurdsson remained a Hoffenheim player.

That could open the way for Liverpool to try to lure the midfielder to Anfield.

Definitely gone now, was expected

Liverpool first team coach Steve Clarke leaves club
First team coach Steve Clarke has left Liverpool, the League Managers Association has confirmed.

Clarke was number two to former manager Kenny Dalglish.

Last week the Reds appointed Brendan Rodgers to succeed Dalglish as manager at Anfield.

Rodgers has yet to name a number two but Liverpool and the 39-year-old's former club Swansea have agreed a compensation package which sees three of his backroom staff move to Anfield.

Clarke offered his resignation when Dalglish was sacked, but this was rejected by the club.

The 48-year-old was Dalglish's first major appointment in January 2011, following coaching spells at Newcastle, Chelsea and West Ham.
