People like Red Beergoggles are just way out of line. You might not like or agree with their decision to dispense of Kenny's services, but to come out with comments like that is disgraceful and shows that they care more about Kenny than our club. FSG are doing what they feel is right and they have clearly come to the conclusion that Kenny isn't the man to take us forward and rather than give him another season (which is the right thing to do) they feel a fresh approach is needed to take us forward. Whilst I do not like their decision, I can understand why they feel the way they do.
FSG are businessman first and foremost and Liverpool football club is an asset to them and evidently they care about their assets. Last season we finished 6th, over £50m of investment is used in the summer and a year later we finish two positions lower than before with the worst tally of points since the Premier League began in 1992. I can completely understand why they have chosen to end his stint as manager - that said they have set a dangerous precedent, they have sent the message that failure is not an option and no matter who you are in football, if you do not deliver the bare minimum in terms of expectations you're backside is turfed out. This is an admirable trait, it's a business trait, but it won't give us the stability we need and we cannot ever hope to achieve sustained long-term success with this method. If FSG want us to become the top dogs in England and Europe then they need to select a manager, back him to the hilt and watch this project grow and flourish. It's unfair on the next manager to expect him to take us from 8th to 4th next season, irrespective of the amount of investment. We need to show signs of improvement each season and gradually build that way.
My other concern is who on earth is going to be our next manager? It's easy to sack a manager, but it's not easy to replace them. I would love to see Benitez back here because I feel he has unfinished business, but how would he get on with the Owners? How would he cope with a Director of Football above him? If we go for Roberto Martinez then does he have what it takes to step up from Wigan to Liverpool? The same with Brendan Rogers and Paul Lambert? Are these managers one season wonders? I cannot for the life of me think who are next manager is going to be! Whoever it is they'll need to start showing signs of improvement as soon as possible and any minimum expectation of them must be met otherwise they'll more than likely be shown the door.
When our next manager comes in, it will be 4 managers in 4 seasons, such a rapid turn over leaves a sour taste in my mouth, so it is imperative that FSG get things sorted out as soon as possible. They've wielded their axe this year, but the real proof in the pudding will be the personnel selected as their replacements.
