Kenny Departs

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

We are always looking back for answers and solutions and until we decide to move
forward I doubt we will get very far.

For what its worth I think Kenny will stay and be given another crack at it by Fenway
but thats probably because they cant be arsed with the backlash so fired everyone
but Dagger instead.

At this point I fear the Kop is running the show and unfortunately our owners dont
appear keen to risk a PR disaster so will gamble on Dalglish turning this team aroud
full circle next year.

If Dagger truly is a football genius he will need to muster all of it next year as he will
be on the ropes from the moment that first ball is kicked.

The honeymoon period really is over and it will take a big effort to turn the thing around
into anything like an acceptable position but I wish him the best of luck.

People seem to miss one vital point and that is that Kenny has only been in the position for a short while. Before him, it was Roy who had even less time. If Kenny is sacked, then we are in danger of becoming like Chelsea only we don't have the money to throw at manager after manager. It's currently a case of stick or twist. If we twist and another guy comes in and he fails too, do we try another one after only a year? I'm one of the "blind faithers". Not sure why that gets a bad rep really since that's what support is. I'd not call it blind faith though...i'd call it true support. That is to support the team and the pieces that make up that team as one whole entity. It's not our job as fans to start getting on fellow fan's backs or calling for the manager (who's also a fellow fan) to be sacked.

Support through the wind, the rain, the good, the bad, the ugly, the whole lot. We may not have success, but at least we retain our dignity and pride in knowing that we tried, and failed or succeeded by standing together, not by throwing money all over the place alá Chelsea or Man City.

We end the season with our lowest ever Premier League points total, fewest wins (14) in a top flight season since 1953-54 and fewest top flight goals in a season (47) since 1991-92. Horrendous stuff.

Ultimately it is down to FSG if Kenny stays or not, if he stays he'll carry on receiving my support, if he goes then he leaves with my best wishes. If we do sack Kenny then we will be seen to be emulating the approaches of many clubs who sack managers here, there and everywhere. However if we do sack Kenny then FSG need to ensure they appoint a manager who will be given a sustained period of time to build his side and see if that bears fruits like what happened with Houllier and Benitez, both men were given six years each. I would expect the next manager to be given a similar time period.

The last time a failing manager was given "more time" it was going to take Liverpool 20 years to get back among the cream of Europe. Give Kenny more time and there is no guarantee that we will ever return to the top again.

Whereas sacking him would guarantee it...?

I can understand FSG's decision if they do inform Kenny that he's to pick up his P45. His management of the club this season, especially in the second half of the season has been poor, very poor. Our form since January has been that of relegation candidates, let's be honest here! He's done well to get us into two cup finals, that was a fantastic feat and something Kenny deserves a lot of respect for achieving. However, our league form has been pathetic, he's missed a great opportunity to really propel us up the league table, but he's wasted that opportunity with poor signings for expensive prices. Once again in the aftermath of the defeat to Swansea, Kenny has said his side didn't deserve to lose, we were unfortunate and in truth I'm fed up of this over-used excuse. We deserve to be where we are this season, make no mistake about it. We've been poor and had this been Hodgson there would have been protests outside Melwood and outside Anfield as we speak. If Kenny does stay for another season, then he needs to re-group and work on a conjuring up a winning formula. However can a 61 year old manager really change? I'd like to believe so, but many would believe otherwise.

Seriously ,Where does this multitude that want Dalglish out truly exist ? As far as I can see its a handful of dissenters that loiter on forums
and frequent TalkSport phone lines ...... no one who will actually impel the board to sack Dalglish

Like i have stated till I am red in the gills ,It will be the Kop and the fans who pay their hard earned wedge who decide ,not and I repeat this

very disapointed to hear that.
does anyone seriously think maxi, kuyt, spearing and carra are going to be any better next season or that aqua and cole will turn us into top 4 material?.
we need to offload that lot so we can fund replacements and give their wages to the new guys.

It just means who we sell will depend on what offers we get and who we can manage to buy.

the league table doesnt lie at this stage of the season, you finish were you deserve to be.
the season is over 9 months not 9 weeks so there`s no getting away from the fact that we have been abysmal in the league, this is our joint worst finish in the top flight for 58 years and the other time we finished 8th was when souness had that horrorendous season and even then although he finished 8th he still had more points than kennys side does. i`m not trying to put a positive spin on anything but.....managers do have poor seasons, ferguson finished 11th and 13th in consecutive seasons with united and even flavour of the month moyes escaped relegation by the skin of his teeth one season, that was after finishing 7th the previous year as well. brian clough was thrown out of leeds after a terrible run and that was in his mid 70`s heyday....they all bounced back.
it wasnt that long ago pardew was being relegated and nearly took charlton down another division to the third tier of english football and that was when they were pre season favourites to go back up.
if we were losing to everyone i`d say maybe it`s time for a change but we have shown we can more than compete in head to heads with the top teams in the division, we are not a poor side just a very inconsistent one. lets not forget as well that we have won our first piece of silverware in 6 seasons too and got to the final of the other domestic competition.

Kenny isn’t some young manager finding his feet in the premiership or a manager coming in from abroad. He didn’t even come in from another club. He was already employed by the club and was largely responsible for signing the likes of Wilson, Sterling and Shelvey. He has been back working at the club for over 3 years, 18 months as manager, and 12 months as permanent manager. He reshaped the squad with his signings in the summer and we have finished a million miles away from our objective of finishing in the top 4. We didn’t even come close to challenge despite the teams we were competing against seriously underperforming.

Change for the sake of change is pointless but so is consistency for the sake of consistency. The people who think the club would be better served by Kenny stepping down as manager or being removed by the board have a sensible argument and shouldn’t be vilified.

cant believe the amount of sh!te going around about roberto martinez and what a great job he's done.
what has he done really?other than keep his side from getting relegated he's done nowt.
is it not his fault that they were in with a chance of being relegated in the first place?.not one person on this forum was singing his praises before christmas and its only in the last few months when they took a few scalps that he's now become the next best thing.
i can understand some advocating mourinho, capello and even rafa again but roberto martinez is the bottom of the barrel, nice guy yes but liverpool manager?.
abso-fucking-lutely not.

Very disappointing season, New players simply out of their depth and shouldn't of ever been allowed near our club,

Kenny, not good enough, outdated tactics and annoyance of sticking by players who are not performing

we are falling further behind every year, quite scary  really.

Nonsense. The board have a responsibility to detach themselves from emotion towards individuals and make the best call for the club. The fans may have played a part in the removal of Hodgson and the timing but this is 18 months along and the board will make the best decision for the club regardless of what the mob want. I don’t know if they will remove Kenny or not but serious discussions need to be had and a big call to be made.
