Player options in summer....who!??

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Much too early to even think about summer

We dont know Kenny's position.
We dont know who will be offloaded and how much can we recoup.
We also don't the players who we want to keep if they will be here next season (Pepe will almost certainly want to leave, Glen Johnson is heavily linked to Real Madrid). Luis Suarez i worry about also as i can see him being tempted to move if a CL team comes in (hes already spoken of PSG).

Of the players we currently have... we would like to keep Reina, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Enrique, Gerrard, Lucas, Suarez, Sterling...(perhaps keep Bellamy, Kuyt, Kelly, Downing as back up players). The rest would not be missed.

We need a massive clear out, and who will be in charge to do that (there has to be huge reservations over Kenny overseeing such a task)

I think Fulham have a few interesting attacking players and certainly
are superior to us in the final third if not at the back.

It would not be difficult to find teams with much better mobility and
interplay in the attacking areas, teams that really should not be getting
near a standard of play we should be producing, but our goal ratio backs
up what the eye can see.

Thing is I find it almost impossible that we could fail to make an improvement
in offensive play looking at our players and those around us and in Europe.

You would have to shut your eyes not to see them, and the only pitfall I can imagine
is selecting 'safe footballers' who can adapt but not impact, which we do constantly.

I hope we don't fall into the same trap of getting players who player for smaller clubs at home thinking we can get a bargain as they are doing so well for their clubs now. Adam, Downing, Carroll and to some extent Henderson... and people are talking about Clint Dempsey? Have we not learnt our lesson? Let's spend a few bob (if it's there to spend) and look abroad.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

I'd offer Carroll, Downing and Adam to Ajax in exchange for Christian Erikson, problem is, we still wouldn't get him  :( , but it's nice to dream.

More seriously I wouldn't complain if we could get hold of Tottenham's Defoe and City's Adam Johnson both of whom are no longer automatic starters for their clubs but as good if not better than what we currently have playing in their respective positions.

Instead of naming players we should get explain why you want them and how they would help strengthen the team.

We need a NATURAL goal scorer Defoe, llorente, higuain these players will be available they are known for scoring goals at high levels. We have one of the worst goal returns so surely this is 1stly where we should look

We also need more creativity out wide and in the middle Lennon pedro Adam Johnson pablo Hernandez kranjcar Toni Kroos

As this dire season nears it's end and the transfer window moves closer. Everything needs to be done quick. If Dalglish isn't going manage us next year then replace him ASAP as we need to get transfers done quick to avoid the inflation over the euros.

Task 1 for the manager who ever it Is

Reina in goal a back 4 of Johnson Agger Skrtle and Enrique

Defensive midfielder Lucas
Central/attacking midfielder Gerrard

Striker Suarez

Build the team around that do not try and put Gerrard in a different position. That is our strongest positions. If we need to strengthen do it to compliment our existing players.

Task 2

Set out targets and get them. No alternatives I.e ashley young - Stewart downing

Finally task 3

Clear out the deadwood the likes of j.cole Aqualani poulsen. Then chuck out downing and Adam.

Personally and realistically id like to see us line up like

                            Reina
Johnson.     Agger.      Skrtle.      Enrique

                Lucas.         Ramirez

A. Johnson.                           Gerrard

                Suarez.            Carroll

Two players that could/ would make a huge difference

I must say I'm disappointed in Adam. When he's out, you don't miss him at all.

The personnel look good, I'm assuming that the Ramirez you've chosen is the young Uruguayan currently playing in Italy (?), very highly rated in terms of potential but still a bit raw . He's predominately left footed and has played as a winger plus as good as Gerrard is out wide, most oppo managers would love to see him there instead of in a more influential central position so I'd tweak your line up as follows

                                       Reina

.  Johnson           Skrtle                   Agger                    Enrique

                                     Lucas
.A Johnson                                                                 Ramirez
                                    Gerrard

                     Suarez                     Carrol

Also shifted Agger to left side of the cental defence , his more accustomed position, not sure why you would want him on the right.

i`d quite like to see us try this side out, funny enough it`s with players already at the club

                                                            reina

                   johnson                   skrtel             agger             enrique

                                                  lucas              gerrard

                                                         aquilani

                               sterling               carroll           suarez

the 2 fullbacks are very athletic and could give us width but both sterling and suarez could roam into wide area`s too, they would have free roles to just go and cause havoc and to work off carroll, i think the threat of sterlings pace getting on the end of carrolls flick ons could force teams to sit back (you`d need usain bolt to catch sterling from behind) not many teams would play a high line with carroll and sterling standing on the halfway line. we need to have teams worrying about what we can do and adjusting their tactics to counter act us instead of us changing our line up to counter act their threats.
gerrard and lucas could hold the midfield but if we have teams under the cosh gerrard could move alongside aquilani, all 3 midfielders can knock the ball about as well.
carroll would give the attack a focal point and i think defences would struggle to cope with the combination of his battering ram approach and the skills and pace of suarez and sterling darting around the big man.
i remember aquilanis best performances for us came in the games when benitez took the brakes off and played the likes of babel and gave him players to link up with (portsmouth at home springs to mind), i think aquilani would have a field day with the likes of sterling and suarez making runs and carroll there as a focal point.

We should go for Adam Johnson, Ibrahim Afellay or Niko Kranjkear all of them are quality and not getting regular football at there current clubs, i dont think it would be too unrealistic to put in an offer. This team badly lacks creativity and there the sort of players we should be looking at. Not sure if it would be possible but id love to see Cabaye from Newcastle in our central midfield as well, he's a great little play maker and has a real eye for a pass, if Newcastle dont get into the champions league he could be an option albeit probably an epensive one now. I want Aquilani to stay next year and see if he can make a name for himself here, he clearly has the talent, if we put a strong tackler next to him he could possibly be a great player. We must buy a new striker aswell, a player  ive always liked is Lisandro Lopez from Lyon he always gave us problems in the champions league when he played for Porto and Lyon, and is a quality finisher, Lyon arnt doing to well at the moment and he could be a very good option. No doubt we wont sign any of the players ive mentioned now  :D

We have to be realistic this summer. Forget Suarez style marquee signings, they are highly unlikely to happen. With this in mind, transfer policy will have to be clever and look for low cost value. In my mind below is a good start to start pursuing -

Moussa Dembele, Clint Dempsey (Fulham)
Junior Hoilett (Blackburn)
Victor Moses (Blackburn)
Adel Taarabt (QPR)
Seb Larsson (Sunderland)

If Kuyt is moving on in the summer as has been reported by various media outlets I dont think we could sign a better replacement than Clint Dempsey. All the same qualities in regards to workrate, commitment and knack for important goals. We've signed alot worse than the American in the last twelve months

Why do we need a striker from Fulham when it looks like Carroll could get well into double figures next season in the premiership? The issue is the midfield and the wide areas.
