Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Boxscarf » Sun Apr 01, 2012 11:04 pm

If FSG still back Kenny as manager in the summer, then they need to invest more money into the club for fresh faces, if they don't because they don't trust him to spend their money wisely then I think a new manager must be instilled, if that's the case.

If they go for a new manager then they'll need to back him and they'll need to be patient with him and give him time to settle in, because massive progress isn't going to happen over night and no manager was ever going to make us a fantastic side on just £100m worth of investment. The fact remains that the top four is difficult to break into, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool all want a place in the top four. That's 7 teams fighting for 4 spaces. While we were staring down the barrel of administration, the other teams with aspirations of a top four finish were making significant progression, particularly City and Spurs.

Coming into Liverpool is nearly as poisoned of a chalice as walking into the England managers job. Each season the players and managers do not meet the standard set by Bob Paisley, the more and more frustrated, delusional and tiresome a large section of the fan base become, it's gotten to the point now where a majority of our fan base behave no differently to those fan bases they criticise and make fun of, i.e. Chelsea and Newcastle. People tout this Jurgen Klopp around, at present time his Dortmund side with the likes of Gotze and Hummels sit three points clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the German League, they're guaranteed Champions League football next season, they have an amazing fan base which puts ours to shame and their stadium is magnificent. Why on earth would he want to leave and more importantly why would he want to come to Liverpool? He'll arrive here, he'll struggle, as soon as he loses three games on the bounce, a large section of the fan base will log onto the internet, will phone into 5live demanding his dismissal as manager etc. He'll get booed and so will his players and it's back to "who should replace this useless German with a dodgy haircut"?

The days when Liverpool supporters gave their manager time to turn things around is truly over, any manager coming into this club can expect to face the same attitude from supporters that they'd get from Chelsea and Newcastle supporters.

Isn't that what the owners want though 'we must target top 4 for champions league. We want to win the league.' etc....

Anyway.... maybe the club recruitment policy is at fault rather than the club sacking policy.

the owners though have done their part in financing players and they have secured some lucrative deals and sponsors so the pressure will certainly be on at some point for cl qualification.
id say they wont be impressed though at how far short we were.

the recruitment policy has failed us miserably over the last decade and the scouting network i hope is the midst of a serious overhaul.
not just that though the coaching looks to have completely deserted us as well and maybe that could do with taking a look at over the summer.

i think the general view is that the owners havent spent that much, apparently we recouped a lot of our transfer outlay by selling the likes of torres, meireles, babel, ngog etc and apparently £35m has come off the wage bill as well.
from what i can gather from fans who look into these types of things when all the numbers have been crunched and analysed the owners are not far short of breaking even.
not saying that is a bad thing but i dont think the owners can complain too much when you have the likes of chelsea and city recently announcing they have spent a billion (yes a billion) on their squads during the abramovitch / shiek`s era.

I'm not surprised, I wouldn't exactly call you a Liverpool supporter in all honesty, so I don't really pay much attention to what you post.

I'm sure Kenny takes solace from the fact he's getting well paid.  :no

I have to admit, I actually considered having another change of manager today.  It does not make me proud, I really in my heart of hearts still think Kenny can do the job, but after today... it's alot more difficult to believe.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

I have never been a fan of Carroll, Henderson, Downing and Adam even before they joined Liverpool. However, to be fair and impartial, they were decent players putting up quite decent performances at their respective old clubs. Carroll was top scorer at NU, Downing and Adam were players of the year for Villa and Blackpool and Hendo looked promising at S'land. Since they joined Liverpool, they just could not bring their decent forms from their old clubs here. What is the reason for this? Well, I am sure there are plenty but one very plausible reason is Kenny's players management is at fault. Those guys may not be good enough to bring back the glory days but under a better manager, we definitely will not lose 6 of the last 7 games with them guys. So the bottom line is, Kenny has done a terrible job and should not be allowed to continue after May.

Since he suddenly ditched Blackburn after winning the prem. with them, his management jobs at NU and Celtic had not been a success and I think he doesn't have what it takes anymore. It is time for FSG to look for a new manager after May.

And when we lose to Everton in the semi, not if but when we lose to them, Kenny should resign or be sacked and let Rafa be the caretaker manager till end of season. I don't think Rafa can do a worse job than what Kenny is doing now. Otherwise, the last 7 PL games will end in defeats.

Yeah but the difference is they were support players before and we're asking them to be leading players. Different style of character - stand up and be counted and by the look of it they're not stepping upto the plate. We're not scoring goals because there's no one determined enough to 'ram the bloody thing into the back of the net even if it kills me'.

Hendo, Downing, Carroll - would you associate the would 'spirit' with them? I wouldn't.    I suspect Adam has more balls than the other 3.
