He hasnt been at his best lately but hes still easily on of the best players in this squad which is filled with average players, Glen Johnson is near the bottom of players that we need to worry about, i feel sorry for him and Enrique being expected to do the work of the wingers as well as there own.

You shouldnt feel sorry for someone who is getting paid thousands of pounds per week to do a job which he is clearly finding too difficult.
He is supposed to help and support our attacking options with his creativity and talent. He is doing the opposite and is becoming a liability

what a load of rubbish, the Bolton game was the only game this season where he has been terrible, he has been a consistent peformer for us this year. Most of our attacking threat other than Suarez is from Johnson and Enrique, plus he has been an ever present in a defence that has been water tight for the most part. If you wanna talk about liabilitys in the side at the moment the likes of Adam, Downing, Carroll, Henderson and Kuyt should be all be up for discussion long before Glen Johnson.

Were watching different matches then because I have seen him play badly many times. He does one or two decent things in a game and some think hes the bees knees.
He has undoubted ability but is one of the biggest frustrations we have. I wish he would grow a pair and run at defenders all the time and get to the by line instead of hovering by the half way line and consistently passing backwards.

One or two decent things or exceptional things? Like scoring a fantastic goal against Chelsea at SB wasn't just decent it was downright brilliant! Given your normally positive outlook I'm very surprised at your somewhat Kerry like attack on Glen Johnson.Just struggling to understand where you're coming from.Since his return the defence with the exception of the Bolton match has looked very impressive and Glen has made a major contribution. Even against Bolton he did some excellent work but the midfield seemed reluctant to go forward! Can he be blamed for that. I admit some of his defensive work against Bolton was poor but so was the entire defence.

Thommo,it's a bit further up the pitch where the problems are! On this occasion I think your talking shoite !!! :D

Glen has been ok this season i think... he does not have average games though, the lad is either a worldie or shocking.

I think there are other areas to look at before we start slating the lad.

Here we go again with the Chelsea goal...Time to move on already ,he has been here for years ,came as an up coming English International star ,at this stage we can pretty much summerize his contribution as poor. His mentality is disgracefull and he is ,in my opinion, plain stupid.

He isn't the biggest of our problems but it just ticks me seeing a potentialy great player waste his his talent and our time. Sell and make a profit while we can. We have just as good/mediocre defenders as he is on the bench.

His ability to score those goals such as that v Chelsea is the reason to keep him on. He is still relatively young and is yet to hit his peak... typically a player will peak in their late 20s and have two or three seasons there. No point selling him now and watching him do it elsewhere.

Football is the only professional sport where you can get away with being average even at the top flight.
All the midfield and forward Liverpool players need to practice shooting at goal, it should be the number one thing they practice until they learn how to do it properly.

Yeah , and every penalty taken by any player in any game should be scored.

???

Yes they should, if a player really smacks a ball into the bottom corner of the goal then no goalie in the world can stop it. I'm baffled why some players miss penalties. Footballers in terms of skill are miles behind other sports stars with a few notable exceptions like Messi.

hmm I take it you know about as much about Tennis as you do Football. In tennis you either play a shot which the opponent can't get to or you force them into an error. Occasionally you get a gift when your opponent does an UNFORCED error but in the professional game it doesn't happen often.

Good post
Because we have problems elsewhere it gives Johnson the ability to hide and miss out on criticism. As I said, he does something decent and people cream in their kecks. He could be a great player if he wasnt such a frustrating wuss. What is he afraid of? What is stopping him from being a lethal attacking wingback who consistantly terrorises defenders by his forward play?

I dont know whether hate is the right word? I actually like him but I want him to play to his potential and be successful for us. I have high expectations for him because he is a talented international player who could do much more than what hes doing. I feel he is coasting most of the time and it frustrates me that he thinks its acceptable to just do enough to stay in the team. Now more than ever we need something extra from our best players and I dont think he is trying hard enough. He should be setting an example, not go missing when the going gets tough.

We've had the best defence in the league so far this season (bar City) and after one, admittedly p!ss poor, result we're back to the 'Johnson can't defend' cliche. Personally, the attacking players in the side need to take the brunt, afterall, thats where we're generally struggling week in week out
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road
