Liverpool have been dealt a blow with the news that Jonjo Shelvey will be out of action for 12 weeks with a tendon problem in his knee.

The England U19 international will now begin a lengthy rehabilitation programme with the club's medical staff at Melwood.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.tv today, Shelvey said: "I'm a bit down at the moment but I'm just hoping now I can come back stronger.

"I am now going to take a 12 week rehabilitation and hopefully I'll be back soon.

Didnt someone mention he had problems with his knees when we signed him? Im sure someone said he had some sort of growth problem which meant hed probally have to retire in his mid 20's. :censored: hell i hope this ist true and doesnt plague his career because hes got the talent.

:(

get well soon Jonjo. I've been impressed with some of his appearances off the bench. He is getting more confident every time he gets on the pitch. Lets hope he comes back stronger

yeah its a real bummer that, just as he was getting playing time and beginning to look like a decent player. if its growth related then he and we might have to put up with this kind of thing for 4 or 5 years. lots of people have commented that his physicality and style are reminiscent of a young gerrard, and we all remember the growth related lay offs that he had in his early twenties.

i guess that means its the last we'll see of him this season though, so lets hope he starts the next one even stronger.

Hehe, was just going over old post about this guy.  I think he has so much potential right now and still so much time to grow he's only 19.  What a buy by Rafa.

Out of all the youngsters to play this season i think Shelvey has been the worst by far, am i being over the top in saying that i dont see much potential in him? everytime he comes on he gives the ball away constantly

At the moment I do think he is another player who is 'typically' over hyped by our own.

I ws one of the first to rave about the lad and I must admit he has been very inconsistent when he has played but i've still seen enough to make me believe he can be a reall player. The pass for Suarez' goal on monday night was excellent and he's shown some other glimpses in cameo roles he's played this season. Kenny seems to like him and i'm still confident we will see more from the lad if he can get a good pre-season behind him in the summer.

Must say im a little disappointed with Shelvey and Wilson so far.  The likes of kelly, Flannagan and Spearing have been much better.

Really? Jonjo has only just come back of a long injury lay off. As soon as he came on he set up a goal for Suarez with a great through ball. I think he's been great. btw Kelly has been out injured for a while too, unless you mean't youve been impressed with his picture.  :D

:D    Maybe its just the hype around Shelvey thats making me expect more.. The through ball was brilliant and he has been good at times, but he has had some pretty poor performances too.

Whereas kelly, Spearing and Flanno have been very good every time they played.

Think jonjo is going to be massive me-self , I've seen him in a few reserve games and he looks head and shoulders above anyone else . Reminds me a hell of a lot of stevie .

I agree Igor.  One difference in his performances in the Reserves and those in the first team, is that he is much more confident and goes into all areas of the pitch with freedom and confidence.  If he can develop that confidence into his first team performances, he'll be a star.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Agreed, mate.  It's important to remember that he often comes off the bench late in games and has been stuck into the LB slot a couple of those times as well.  It's hard to establish a consistency when you are playing only in fits and starts and coming on late.  IMO, it's a bit unfair to compare him to the likes of Kelly and Flanagan or even Spearing, who've benefited from a run of games.  His pass the other night shows the first glimpses of something and I like that he's a positive, drive-em-forward type of player looking to make things happen.  It may be too early to truly big him up but it's also too early, IMO, to write him off.

Really good prospect, just needs to stop trying to do "TO" much with every ball/situation. But that will come with more experience.
