Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

He has travelled and trained with the team in Prague. I thought he was out for the long haul. Maybe he will get some game time tonight or is it too early for him? No point taking him to Prague unless he is sit enough to participate is there ???

in all fairness i'll wait to see what the king can do with him before passing judgement on whether he has a future or not. hodgson made all of our better players look garbage with the style of play he employed anyway.

1) in case you've forgotten, we signed him for free and we got 5million too from the Benayoun sale. hence that money more or less sorts out his wages.

2) besides, we're not in a financial predicament anymore.

3) Joe is a very good player and would be a huge asset to us especially when our only option on the right is Kuyt.

4) furthermore, just because only 11 players are able to start a match doesnt mean we should not have quality on the bench as well.

:talktothehand

1) High wages and apparently the money we got for benny went to Cole as a sign on fee.

2) True. but we should not waste money

3) Its been years since he has produced anything of note. He has done nothing for us.

4) Thats true. But how much time do we give him to show that he is still a useful player.

the wages does not matter anymore as we're no longer in a financial predicament. if anyone is to be worried about that, its the owners, not us. he's been hit by suspensions and injuries hence he is unable to get a run of games hence the lack of match fitness.

how much time he is to be given once again, does not depend on us but the management. i think the reason why some are getting jumpy is because they know how amazing Joe can be hence they wish to see those performances which made him a star ASAP. and i for one would love to see Joe back in contention for an England place as well as im a huge fan of his but we'll have to wait and see. he is so much more capable than any of the "wingers" we have on the team right now seriously.

I worry that he is gonna end up like Harry kewell... too talented and too much potential to sell but possibly never gonna make it at Liverpool.

Hopefully he can get a few games under kenny and perform well.  If not, id seriously listen to any decent offers in the summer.

Ofcourse finances matter. If you only start thinking about finances when the club is in trouble the club is badly run.

And yes I know i'm not the manager of the club, but the purpose of forums such as this is to discuss every aspect of the club even if we are not managers of the club.

If he doesn't perform under Kenny can we all agree to get rid then?  5m when he was on a free would be good business for someone who isn't anywhere near the starting 11 right now and is collecting massive fees.  He hasn't even warranted a place on the bench all season regardless of what he is capable of his performances are far beneath that level so keeping him is a waste imo.  That 5m would be much better spent on someone with more quality, he's 30 years old to boot.

i'm not preventing or suggesting that there is no room for discussions mart. i just don't wish to see a player, whom we all know has got so much talent, leave the club and end up performing well over there and in time we would be wishing we had kept the faith with him.

We have Sterling Suso and Pacheco who are 10+ years younger probally on a sixth of his wage between them and are probally all better now. Hes been ruined by injurys, id take 5 million for him anyday of the week.

Plus Suarez can do a job in Coles position and we all kow he aint to shabby. Hes not the future, he isnt even the present so get rid.

He is a good player but the injuries have certainly taken their toll on his career.

Moving forward as a club it is hard to see where he can fit in once we start bringing in new faces and playing a certain style of football (i.e. two strikers up front).

We should do everything to move him on if possible and build for the future.

Cole is the Kewell of the Benitez/Hodgson era - talent but no end product. He's got about two months or so to save his Anfield career. If Kenny does get the job I suspect he'll accept offers in the summer of around £6 million for Cole, unless his form does improve before then.

I've been watchin the forum when i haven't really been posting and i know you said earlyish that we need to get rid and i agree. 100,000 a week i'm led to believe and hasn't done anything. I don't care if he's been injured half that time, look at kewell. At 30 years old he's hardly on an upward curve is he?

When i look at cole and maxi i think what a waste as we should be blooding in pacheco and even suso with someone of the experience of suarez and kuyt helping them through the game. It's not about the money we're wasting but the time and talent of pacheco. It p!ssed me off losing nemeth when you have someone like ngog who gets all the chances in the world. Maybe i don't understand the game but thats what i see

He was poor tonight but he wasnt alone in that. Id agree though he'll have to put in some shift over the next 3 months if he wants to save his Liverpool career befores its really started.

honestly if someone offered us £5m I'd snap their hands off. We don't miss him when he's gone, he doesn't add much

perhaps I'm being a little harsh considering he hasn't had a decent run of games under the Kenny regime, just came back from injury etc etc

But at the present moment I'd take what was offered
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road
