PEPE REINA - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby bigmick » Fri Nov 12, 2010 11:05 am

Footballers these days rarely stay at one club for the majority of their careers. Even ones which love the club like Torres did Athletico Madrid seek warmer pastures after a while. Pepe is a great keeper and I love him, but if he wants away I would understand his wishes although I'd be gutted. The thing to do is get an auction going and get what he's worth (30-40 mill IMHO). Then obviously we need to invest wisely.

The timing of this is an absolute disaster for us!  Just as we have new owners and start winning a few games.

I pray he stays.  I have a feeling him and Torres might be a package deal.

Hopefully NESV can have a chat with him and convince him that this is the place to be.  He better not go to United though!

Id say he might want to go to Inter.

jac, my biggest fear is if Pepe leaves then Torres will see no reason to stay. That said, those 2 are 2 of THE most passionate foreigners we've had for some time so I give them the benefit of the doubt, it could be media speculation.

He has got a clause in his contract that he can leave, Purslow was feckin stupid enough to allow that to be drawn in, dont ask how i know but i know, WE IMO MUST DO EVRYTHING POSSIBLE TO HANG ON TO HIM AS KEEPERS OF HIS CALIBER AND CHARACTER COME ALONG ONCEIN ABLUE MOON, Devastated if he goes and will want some serious questions asked,

so if he does want to leave. Will you then say hes disloyal or will you blame roy or the pensioner goalie coach.

Yep, its more on the style the team play, it is not helping Reina any favors when we aren't pressing or pushing higher up the pitch or playing on the counter for that matter, it has nothing to do with what the english GK method is teaching, its same old Pepe I've seen so far this season

Reina: I'm fully committed
12th Nov 2010 - Latest News

Pepe Reina today dismissed media reports claiming he has told Roy Hodgson he wants to leave Liverpool.

The Spain international exclusively told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I have seen a newspaper has made this suggestion. It is completely untrue.

"I have not told the manager that I wish to leave in January, or at any other time. It is important our fans know this.

"I have a long-term contract at Liverpool and I am fully committed to the club.

"Our new owner met me and some of the other players last week and I was very happy with what he told me."

Reina, who has played in 18 of the Reds' 21 games this season, added: "The entire squad and staff are working very hard to get us back competing at the top of the table. We will not be distracted by inaccurate media speculation."

Good stuff and one has to wonder why Maddock made this story up?

it doesnt benefit, roy, reina or liverpool does it?
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.
