Liverpool not too big for relegation battle, says Roy Hodgson, after Blackpool loss
Roy Hodgson last night conceded Liverpool cannot regard themselves as being too big for the relegation battle after their Anfield defeat to Blackpool but insisted the club would finish the season nearer the top than the bottom of the table.

Disasterous: Roy Hodgson admits says Liverpool could face relegation but remains confident they will climb up the table

“If you are in the relegation zone, then you are in a relegation battle,” the Liverpool manager said after Charlie Adam’s penalty and Luke Varney’s clipped finish left his side in the bottom three for the first time in 46 years, despite Sotirios Kyrgiakos’s consolation goal.
“I am not going to think too much about relegation with 31 games left to play and I am absolutely convinced Liverpool will not be in the bottom three at the end of the season. Whether we can fulfil our ambition of finishing towards the top is another matter, but when you saw the way we played in the second half I am incredulous anyone can suggest we will finish in the bottom three.”

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Tell me what the hell Rafa Benitez has to do with the current manager's team selection, playing people out of position and setting the whole team up 15 yards too deep, even against supposed weaker opposition at home?

Last season, we were battering average teams at home.

Is Roy the first Liverpool manager in modern times to actually mention the word "relegation" in relation to the side?

I think he did something.......we won trophies..we returned to the top of europes rankings we re-established ourselves on the world stage.....we became an attractive club for the top stars to ply their trade....

unfortunately some dimwits prefer to gauge success on the league only and then persecute a manager for a poor 7th position without taking any other extenuating circumstances into consideration after the previous season finishing 2nd with a record points haul.....it appears those same persecutors will be happy to support any failing the next manager will over-see and put it all down to Rafa Benitez....I feel that the players we have at our disposal are better than the position we find ourselves in because they are not utilised in their best positions...Gerrard is not playing in his best position but his personal preffered position...Meireles plays his best football at centre mid...Poulsen is a huge Hodgson mistake but will get his game because he fits the Fulham remit....

I do believe Hodgson was the only manager available or willing to take the LFC job in our present predicament.

I agree SS. Some people make out Rafa to be a pariah. He wasnt perfect and it all ended in tears, but like Houllier before him, he did achieve a lot.

I think Roy decided to have a punt at the Liverpool job. Getting sacked wouldnt be the end of the world for him. He has a good enough reputation in world football for him never to be out of work.

He probably thought: "Liverpool are a mess but its a big prestigious job, and if it goes wrong I can point to the mess off the field. I'll always get another job no matter what and when I retire I can tell my grandchildren that one day I managed Liverpool."

I've had reservations about Hodgson from the start, always did, but given the circumstances he's working under, the state of the squad and the resources he's had, it's completely unfair to write the man off after 7 league games.  To sack him now would be a disgrace.

These people wanting Roy to stay are clinging to him because its the same people that wanted Rafa out. Can't be wrong can we? Fess up for :censored: sake.

He has had quite some time with the team and played well around 15 games.

I liked him at the start. I thought he was just what we needed, in fact I called a few on here all the b@st@rds under the sun for not giving him a chance but, the more I see how he works and the more I hear his excuses the more I agree with Ciggy, Nan etc etc

I think we should stop the rot asap but dont appoint Dalglish please, not now. It would be unfair.

I pray he gets sacked in the next day or two.

Nothing about him or his team is encouraging.
