I'm going to stick my neck out and say I think Poulson will prove a useful addition over the course of a season ,but not as a direct replacement for Mascherano or as a starter in the first eleven.... I don't think he has the game to impose his play especially from the off ,but I think he could prove useful when being used to close a game down in much the same respect Didi used to do towards the end of his career ...lets face it we needed a midfield general to replace Mascherano and Poulson was never going to be that ,but I think we should also take into account that Hamann was never the most fleet footed but his play was intelligent and his football brain as sharp as they come .....and in the same context Gary Mac also proved a more than intelligent footballer ....
Anyway Poulson is a Liverpool player and he deserves a fair crack at it
So I think I will reserve judgement on Poulson for now .... haven't seen enough of him to truly warrant writing him off completely especially if he is used effectively when coming off the bench

poulsen reminds me of that guy out of ABBA. And why does he have to wear a stupid shoe lace around his head. And that handball what a joke lucas is ten times better than him and hes :censored:

i think its a valid question. has the loss of one player and the gaining of another who plays in the same/similar position strengthened our team or weakened it?

poulsen is much better and more creative than aquilani.

I think if given space to operate, he can do a decent job but when other teams are pressing like the Sunderland game, he would have a hard time. Again, he is not as bad as he looks but just in the wrong league i suppose. A lot like Maxi where they would excel in a slower pace league but not in EPL. But i wonder whey we need to start him? We can just play Gerrard and Mierles in the middle and have cole play behind Torres with Kuyt on right and Babel on left or have Pacheco play behind torres with Cole on the left. I think if we can have most of the possession, we don't need a DM like Poulsen or Lucas.

ye ive moved on mate i never brought it up. Plus maybe i was wrong since we got rid of aqua and mash and replaced them with poulsen and meireles weve turned into title contenders havent we now?

Talk of people "deserting" Poulsen implies that some of his believers are more interested in being proven right than anything else, effectively "sky is not blue" merchants. Certainly for my own part, nothing could be further from the truth. As far as the thread is concerned, there is little IMHo to add to what has already been written.

Poulsen is a completely different type of player to either Masherano or Lucas (he's a far better one than the latter however) and as such comparisons between how much he runs around and how much they did are pointless. I remain concinved that if our system means that we need a sitter who comes in and gets the ball off the centre halves, Poulsen will be excellent at playing the role. I do agree that he's taking a very short time to get the feel of the pace of things, but that's OK. I know it's early, but his quality is actually pretty obvious and not that hard to spot really. It's purely a question of adaptation to a new league which he has to overcome, and I remain convinced that he will manage it no problem.

i feel sorry for lucas hes getting unfair critiscm by some of ulot. Ye he isnt great but i honestly believe hes better than poulsen i mean that handball was laughable and amateurish.

I dont see the point of people keep saying things like "Poulsen is way better than Lucas." That might be true on certain perspectives but its hardly what the team needs right now. What we need, is to play the player whom is able to contribute more / do a better job for the team / be more efficient / effective in a holding midfield role.

I dont care if Poulsen can juggle a ball 10 times more than lucas or if hes more technically gifted or have better positional sense or have better footballing brains. Right now, Roy needs to play the player who can do the job better, and that, IMO, judging from the last few performances of both players, Lucas has the slight edge. (although, i'll be darn, neither should even be in the team in the first place if we had a choice).

Theres only one type of player whom a manager should stick his faith in even when hes not performing / not on form, and that is the type of player who can win a game on his own, the Gerrards, the Torres, Poulsen is certainly not in that category.

The problem needs to be fixed where its most critical, and what we need is points now, some points so we climb up the league table. Winning generates confidence and builds morale, the sooner we start getting results, the better. There will be plenty of time in a long season to bed Poulsen into the team. What we need now however, is the man whose more suitable (well, the lesser of 2 evils in this case) and that man is currently not Poulsen.

It's hard to deny Poulsen has not played very well, but what I don't understand is that he's criticised for his speed or pace. Especially because we have seen players that pace wise were very slow but did a great work for Liverpool in the distribution task, in deciding what's going to be the next play, in taking the right decission (Alonso or Hamman were not lightnings pace wise).

For that task you don't need pace, you need football brain. And that's what Poulsen has and Lucas hasn't. With Poulsen, his bad games are a investment and I know the results will come. With Lucas I have waited more than 50 games before starting to say a single bad word about him, and I don't have hopes about his future at a top club.

If lucky, he'll be a starting eleven player in a Malagaish team.
