underwhelmed to say the least.

And i would definitely play Lucas in the derby if it was a straight choice.
Seems like money wasted to me.

I did say at the time that i didnt think that position was a priority and think that when our squad is particulaly weak in certain areas it was a mistake.

well i have been the game this season so hopefully am not part of ciggys rant  :D

And he has been terrible, also the problem is i dont see him getting better or being good enough.
The reason being is he doesnt appear to have a great deal to his game.

I hope he proves us wrong but i think your right San and that he will prove to be a big waste of money.

We weren't all calling for Kuyt's head...some of us actually felt Dirk was an important part of the team.

In many ways the Poulsen debate reflects the Benitez one. In the case of the manager, he had obviously lost it and needed replacing. Whether or not the bloke we replaced him with is any good either remains to be seen, but even if he isn't it won't change the fact that his predessessor had lost it and had to go.

In the case of Poulsen, well clearly any team with realistic ambition couldn't continue to play Lucas in every match in central midfield. He simply isn't good enough, never will be, and fortunately Roy recognised this pretty quickly (unfortunately he didn't recognise the same with Skyrtel but that's another story). So we had to find a replacement for Lucas, and he went for Poulsen.

Now people can foam at the mouth all they like about Poulsen, but he has shown more quality whilst playing sh!t in half a dozen matches than Lucas did all last season. That said, his performances so far haven't been good enough (he's hardly on his own but the posse have singled him out). It may well be that his performances never become good enough either (I think they will but you can never be certain), in that case we'll have to look again.

What it won't mean though if he doesn't turn out to be good enough, is that we should have stuck with Lucas. Just like it doesn't mean that if Hodgson doesn't turn out to be good enough we should have stuck with Benitez. Similarly, if NESV or whatever the feck they're called turn out to be a bunch of c...s, it doesn't mean we should have stuck with Hicks and Gillette. Simple really.

 poulsen has shown NO qualities and everytime he steps on the pitch he proves it . Lucas may not be good enough but he is better than Poulsen . Everyone can see bar the odd one . He is awful and adds NOTHING to the team . A waste of money and a waste of a space in the team - we play with ten men when he is on the pitch .  isn't he supposed to protect the back 4 ( well I think he is ) but he couldn't protect a fly . The evidence is glaringly obvious to everyone bar the odd one off course .

Aren't we just going over old ground here  ???.

You've said many times that you can't see his qualities, and there's not an awful lot I can do about that I'm afraid. Similarly, there's little I can do about your belief in Lucas, you are entitled to it.

You say he "isn't supposed to protect the back four" but I think he is, that's his job I think ???. I don't think he's doing a great job of it, but to say a defensive midfielder isn't supposed to protect the back four makes it very difficult to have a sensible football debate with you.

As for "evidence", well many things have been evident so far this season.

Yep many things have been evident - poulsen is not good enough is one of them amongst other things and people that aren't good enough . I made a grammatical error in last post - I was supposed to state " isn't he supposed to protect the back 4 " .

Ah right, I thought it didn't make any sense at all. Well now you've cleared it up I agree with you. He IS supposed to provide protection to the back four, and I don't think he's making a very good job of it.

Bigest load of tripe ive read on someone trying to defend a player , even bringing previous managers into it, Poulson Defending the back four ,  Well he must have another 3 look alikes on that pitch because he dost fu,cking move , Why do you think hes called a crab, the ball goes to him then he passes it from side to side , He protect one of the back four and hes sh,ite at even doing that , as soon as hes shipped out the better , Even a 6 year old kid at the match can see that Lucas has to play before him , Why because hes miles better than him, thats why ,

And to compare the Poulson debate similar to the Rafa one , surely you gotta be fishin,

Nanny, being a bit unfair on Poulsen I think.

He does move around a lot and also does tackle. Unfortunately, most of it happens only after the ball is well past him. That is a separate debate.

The best way to sum up Poulsen is this. He is a Rafa type kind of player.
Bill Shankly: “I was the best manager in Britain because I was never devious or cheated anyone. I’d break my wife’s legs if I played against her, but I’d never cheat her.”
