Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

It's all a bit early to be making much of a judgment on Poulsen isn't it? I find it hard to see how anyone can either rave about him being considerably better than Lucas or claim the lad isn't good enough in such a short space of time. It's never easy to suss the ability of a DM in such a short space of time. Ideally you like to see him playing with attacking players around him because only then do you see if he's actually worth his weight.

Look i wasn't happy when Aqua went on loan but this is the wrong discussion to have on this thread. Poulsen can pass i know that but i'll give him 10 games minimum before i start judging.

IMHO i rate the lad, think he has got a sensible head about him, i certainly think he provides more than lucas, but for me, meireles and gerrard has to be the cm partnering for me. Honestly, i think either of them can offer just as much defensively as either lucas or poulsen. That being said, i doubt we'll see both meireles and gerrard against manure, i don't think hodgeson has the confidence in the team to do that.

Poulsen is older and had more experience than Lucas and thus he appears to have better awareness than Lucas. The problem is given his limitation on  his attribute. Would a slow footed player do the job as an effective DM? That i'm not so sure. As it seems he is the slowest of the bunch we had that made Alonso looks like Usain Bolt. He might do a decent job against mid to lower tier team but he will get eaten alive when playing better team. Honestly, I don't know why Roy got him in the first place. He wasn't even able to start in Juventus in a slower Italian league and how he can survive in EPL really puzzled me. I bet even Hamann now can play better than him......He was playing worse than Lucas in the last game (ii can't believe i just said that). At the end of the day, both Lucas and Poulsen shouldn't be in the team.

After watching him for 2-3 games, he doesnt really impress me much. Not really an improvement from Lucas IMO. Yes its early days yet but a player his age have to come good sooner rather than later.

Babel is what? 23? if he doesnt make it in the Premier League or here at Liverpool, theres still time for him to develop at another league or another club. Poulsen on the other hand, doesnt have time on his hands. He was already pushed off the first team at Juventus and Liverpool is pretty much his last chance at a bite of the cherry at this level.

For his sake and ours, I hope he comes good sooner rather than later. Im not asking for much, not expecting him to just step in and fill the massive boots left my Mash (love him or hate him, no one can argue that hes not good at what he does). Im not even expecting him to be a regular first team player ( in an ideal world, my central midfield partnership would be Gerrard and Mireles with Cole ahead of them linking midfield to attack), not expecting him to spray 40 yard hollywood passes or score the occassional cracker 30 yarder goal. If hes able to sit in, keep the shape of the midfield, not allow the opposition to dominate the middle of the park and just make short non-misplaced passes (even sideways), i'll be satisfied. Sadly though, hes been overrun by most of the opposition hes faced so far during huge parts of the game. Hopefully thats all down to lack of match fitness and the unfamiliarity of a foreign league.

I dont really share Mick's optimism regarding Poulsen but then again, Im not expecting much from him either, i'll be banking mu monies on Mireles, who looked like he had some football intelligence in the 20min cameo he had at St Andrews.

He's a tidy player that's about it, still isn't good enough to be playing for us imo.  He's better than Lucas no doubt although his lack of pace is a little worrying at times he is still the better of the two.  Success or not he won't impress that often imo.

For me he's still obviously adapting which is pretty obvious but over time he improved, at the start very edgy, quite nervous and not very risky but as he grew into the game he closed players down and started to pass more, for 4 million quid he could turn out to be quite a bargain if he continues to improve. More of the sublime passes as well, 40 yard pass to Meireles was really nice to see.

Once again showed he is not good enough - his lack of mobility pace and awareness sticks out like a sore thumb . Would rather Lucas was there instead - at least he closes the man down

He doesn't have to be mobile to be good. He showed great awareness actually, especially in the second half. His distribution looked a bit like Hamann to me, had a fantastic second half with Gerrard. Don't blame him for the goals, not even Mascherano could have stopped them, blame our inept defense for not dealing with crosses.
