He doesn't have to be mobile to be good. He showed great awareness actually, especially in the second half. His distribution looked a bit like Hamann to me, had a fantastic second half with Gerrard. Don't blame him for the goals, not even Mascherano could have stopped them, blame our inept defense for not dealing with crosses.

Yup I agree.

All 3 goals came from crosses. Nothing came from the middle of the park.

Skrtel as always was very timid in the air and our fullbacks had little support from the wingers.

Poulsen cant be to blame for crosses constantly coming into the box can he.

Poulsen was pi$$ poor against Mancs, but perhaps this is the kind of player we can afford at this juncture.

He was slow, ponderous, did not close down and did not provide any cover for the defenders. WTF...I was cursing at him and Maxi a lot in that match...

LiverpoolMadman, my fellow Reds fanatic, I think the very obvious shortcomings in our squad highlights the difficulties that lie ahead unless new owners are found, pronto! I am not optimistic at our prospects this season, finishing 4th should be the realistic target.

I thought he played very well last night. Totally a different player than the games he had played. He distributed the ball well and had couple of very good tackle tracking back. Not sure where all the "he was sh.lt in Mancs" came from. He wasn't the problem last night as he did his part. The ones that left Berbatov opens was Carra especially on the 2nd goal. We just got beat by a red hot Berbertov. I would say Maxi was the bigger problem last night. He has way more class then lucas has.

he was absolutely terrible in the first half against the mancs but credit given when credits due, he stepped it up in the second half along with the rest of the team. Still not convinced by him though and at this point in time, he needs to do more to convince people hes a marked improvement from Lucas.

I think he would be brilliant being introduced to a game when we need to close it down ...something Hamann was excellent at ,I actually thought although Poulsons passing may be described as slow by some ,it has an assured feel to it more languid and patient than slow
I don't know whether he can play from the start but when Liverpool need an experienced head to come on and provide a calmness I think he may have found his role ..... but I would definitely use the energy of Lucas and Meireles as a possible partnership with Gerrard on the flank to attack teams from the off

Good post mate, it describes him quite well really. He is very calm and patient on the ball.

Against lesser opposition he wont be that useful so i would play something like this:

                               Reina

       Johnson       Carra     Agger      Konchesky

                    Gerrard         Meireles

        Babel                 Cole           Jovanovic

                                Torres

I cannot believe nobody has written on this thread today, he had a total shocker, 5 yards to slow, lunging into tackles, giving away fouls and not covering enough ground, really worried that ths guy will not be able to adjust to the speed of the premiership, he actually made Lucas look a better option today, he is no way a good enough replacement for Mascherano and I think would be torn apart by Arsenal of Chelsea so not sure what we will do for these games.

imho, he's a sqaud player at best- reason being he's no where near as good as masha was for us in the holding role. all i hope is that he & lucas have to fight it out for a subs apperance when the game needs require it. not on just todays perforfance, cause it's alright saying give the bloke some time etc, fine i'm up for that but this is a very experienced player who with so called talent doesn't need time to settle, he should have such an experienced football brain to know what he was walking into with the EPL.

i will keep the faith with players like poulsen, but please fecking give me somthing in return to justify it,cause he doesn't & hasn't shown me anything different to what lucas offers & i will never get the argument that lucas is more mobile-striding from side to side an passing from side to side doesn't make him more mobile than poulsen imho.

Not good enough for the premier league, its too quick for him, he looks a useful player, however not in this league, closed down too quickly and not enough space on the players he wants to pass to shame really.

Just shows how much Masch did really doesnt it, since he went we look like we have no cover at all, and no masch to cover Johnsons runs.
