If he doesnt create does he then do the destroying role or protecting role as neither were achieved against Brum - he didnt help out the cb's or full backs like we used to see Masher do ? so what exactly is his job if he doesnt create

I don't know i thought he did alright at defending. It's up to Roy what role he plays i guess.

Defending ? really - the cbs were exposed all game long and the cm was pouring into the box numerous times .

I thought he was alright myself too, he just needs to be more assertive in the middle, but I don't think Lucas will get the best out of him to be honest, they look like an awful pairing.

He knows how to pass the ball, 10 or 15 minutes of the first half against birmingham he was spraying passes right, left and center and I would like to see more of that please!

The passes he was doing were the exact same passes that Lucas gets accused of - sideways or backwards or just 5 yards .

Have looked through the forums and they all say the same thing - Poulsen is just an older slower less mobile version of Lucas .

Watch the game again, I think its from 9th minute to the 20th or something, you can see Poulsen wasn't giving 5 yard passes sideways or  backwards, he was giving the right pass, or forward pass. Everytime Lucas put in a forward pass it ended up with a Birmingham player!!!

i have watched it twice mate - would rather not go through the pain a third time - if they were the right pass then surely we must of come close to creating something but we didnt . Our midfield was dominated during the game and that comes down to both players in the middle - both were equally ineffective and wastefull in the game

It's all opinions :D Some people think Lucas and Poulsen are the same player with just an age disparity. I think there is absolutely no comparison to each other in terms of quality, it's like comparing Torres and Babel, infact the difference is probably even bigger.

How anyone could watch that game in its entirity yesterday and not come to the same conclusion is a complete mystery to me. It is baffling in the extreme, but then I'm sure they would say the same so it's best we just agree to differ.

I thought he was pretty terrible against Birmingham myself... Didnt seem to be playing any sort of specific role for the side... Neither was Lucas but we'll keep that for a different thread... The reason why I'd play him ahead of the Brazilian though, and the reason why i think he'll prove to be a decent player for the side is that he obviously seems to have the quality to make it at this level.. Hes an established player who seems to have good positioning and awareness ... Personally i'd play him a little deeper and get him on the ball more often when starting attacks from the back.. When we're on the ball higher up I'd still keep him playing a little deeper to give the other central players more freedom to move without the ball..

Think Poulsen will do a job once he settles in and gets used the pace and that. Thing is we just need to pick our best players rather than it being all about the system. Just pair Poulsen (or Lucas, but I wouldnt) with Merieles or Gerrard and we will be ok but not two the same. Its ok tackling all day or giving away cheap free kicks but our better footballers can carry the ball out and use it better, there by pushing the opposition back with good play rather than sitting in there all afternoon. Its just not creative and we have to be better than that at Liverpool surely to god.

Well yeh , i thought poulson was poo honestly mick . He's too slow mate and not mobile enough mate . Lucas atleast gets about the park . If it was a choice between the two i'd take lucas for his mobility.

I have searched around all the forums and they pretty much say the same as you Igor - can hardly find anyone who rates apart from on here and most people seem to pick Lucas over him purely for his mobility .

what worried me is that on 2 occassions he had the ball and was positioned between their box and the centre circle and he lofted the ball in to the box vertically, twice, I havnt seen that done outside of amateur football.

tell me what poulsen does and creates that aquilani didnt. Aqua got 6 assists and 2 goals in 13 games and that was half fit. Poulsen reminds me of an old shepard with long grey hair stuck in a field with his big stick.
