I just see it as putting the pressure on Milan - they have spent big to try and get past Inter , he first derby between them should be interesting

INter have won the league 5 years in a row and they are European champions.

All he has to do is not Fukk up and they win the league again.

I think there's a lot of pressure on Rafa tbph. How many times have won the title six times in a row in their respective countries. I think MIlan look a decent prospect these days, it wouldnt shock me if they won the league. Anyone else mind and I'd ask serious questions

I certainly considered Rafa Benitez a success.

Rafa won the Champions League in Istanbul and the FA Cup in Cardiff. In losing to AC Milan in the Champions League final of 2007, I actually thought Liverpool looked better than they did in Istanbul.

People talked about whether Rafa had been given enough money for transfers but the Liverpool board will always give as much as it can.

It’s not in the club’s interests to restrict the manager and the team. All managers would like more. But I felt the board did as much as they could financially for Rafa.

I was still surprised he went. Not too many people felt much resentment towards Rafa for going. The fans supported him because they support the position of the manager at Liverpool. They are loyal to the chair, especially in times of trouble. Rafa certainly wasn’t disliked.

Some of the critics might have perceived him as cold but every time I was with him, we’d have a chuckle, tell a few stories. Rafa’s good company.

It’s important to understand that Rafa Benitez is obsessed with only two things: family and football. After games, Rafa was straight on to the video, analysing play on the way back on the coach. He works an awful lot and takes very little time off.

Maybe he should have rested more, although the fresh challenge of Inter Milan must have felt as good as a holiday for him.

Rafa is not without feeling. He made a fantastic gesture to the Hillsborough Families Support Group with the huge donation he made to help them with their cause.

Milan spent a bit of money but they never addressed the real issues in their side...
They probably have the best forwards in Italy but all the other positions in their squad seriously lack quality...
No goalkeeper, no decent fullbacks, half decent CBs who are never fit, midfielders who provide width.. etc etc

The only way they could win the league with a side like the one they have is if Inter fck up big time in the league...

They looked pretty shocking last night - there is no point having 4 top class forwards in the squad if they have no creative influence to create the chances for them

it up after all. and Milan have established a much better side IMO

its funny that people are willing to give Hodgy the new manager at a different club treatment but not Rafa the new manager in a different country treatment.

A new manager to fail to win the league in his first season with a team that the 2 previous managers have won it 5 times in a row would be a disaster. Throw in the fact that they are the best team in Europe (trounced Barca and beat Munich easily), and it gets even worse.

Yes it would be hard even for the apologists on here to think up excuses if they can't at the very least win their domestic league. Hard doesn't mean they won't be able to do it obviously, as the saying goes "miracles just take a little longer"

.

I think for them to win the Champions League again though would be difficult, whoever was manager (even if it were still Mourinho). Clearly they weren't the best team in it last season, and they aren't the best team in it this season either.

They did all the things you said mate, but I personally think that was as a direct result of some very shrewd planning and execution behind the scenes. I'm not going to go into it now because we'll all drown in a sea of mouth froth, but suffice to say I would be very surprised if they can repeat that success.

Infact to bring the subject back into line, if Rafa can emulate what they did last season in Europe then even his staunchest critics would have to accept it as an outstanding acheivement.
