In truth it appears people havent moved on even though they claim to have.

It will probably be that way until Roy wins them over though.
A win at Old trafford wouldn't do him any harm at all.

Do you have more affinity to Hodgson over any of our previous managers ? Shanks , Bob , Joe and Daggers for example ? . Rafa earnt the affinity people hold him in and Hodgson has to earn that as well - he doesn't automatically get it .

At this moment in time yes i do.
But its a mute question as none of them currently are managing other teams, so its a different scenario.
But if they were i would care more that Roy does a good job here.
The fact of the last season, the one you keep saying he shouldnt only be judged on that is what makes him different to the others.
Its the same for my feelings for him as they are for Houllier and a lesser extent Souness and Evans.
If they went and done well somewhere else i wouldnt be made up for them. I wouldnt care particulaly. Maybe with Evans i would be slightly different but if Ged goes and wins things with Villa i wouldnt care at all.
Same with Rafa.

But loads of you lot would, i dont get that to be honest.

Ben I don't want Rafa to do a better job than Hodgson does at Liverpool and it's wrong of you to assume people think that way . I want Rafa to do well because of what he brought to Liverpool and the joy he brought us - I'm not going to let one season ruin a good memory of Rafa - that one season doesn't and shouldn't take away all the good he did for the club - same with Souness - his managerial stint with us shouldn't take away the good he did as a player - the same with Houllier - every manager has a poor period but it shouldn't overshadow the good . As long as a previous manager is not in direct competition with us then yes I want to see him do well - he was a big part of our club and was and prob still is a fan of the club and I bet he wants us to do well .

That's the reply i expected and its difficult for me to really come back from that, as you are saying the right things.
What i would say is practice what you are preaching if this is the case.
Give the new man a proper chance, get behind him in the same way as you got behind Rafa.
In an ideal world Roy would come in and improve us and Rafa would do well in Italy.
That way everyone's happy.
But on here it seriously does come across with a lot of people that they are just wanting to say i told you so.
Now i know that these people want the best for LFC but its not coming across that way at all, and they are allowing old feelings for the previous manager to affect their willingness to get behind the current one.

When Rafa arrived I supported him but i was also very critical of him as I didn't like the way we were performing and I didn't see him lasting - he had to earn the affinity just like Hodgson does - I will back - because he is manager but I'm not going to just glorify everything and I'm going to be critical and point out where I believe he gets things wrong and will do so - yes I don't rate nor do I think he is good enough but I hope he proves me wrong as that means success - I'm sorry but I'm not going to lie nor fall down on my hands and knees at his feet - just like players he has to earn and do the right things to show everyone he is the right man for the job

That's fair enough but you at times were being over critical imo.
That's fair enough everyone has different opinions and some are less happy than others.
I have been critical of Roy so far. He has got things wrong at times and the start could have been better.
I do still think we were right to change things though, no doubt about it.

Benitez is gone - get over it.

I don't care one way or the other how he does. He got paid very well to do a job and then held out to get a lot of money from the club to go away so I don't have an affinity for him. Neither do I despise him like I do Houllier (bad mouthing roy evans showed him to be a scumbag).

This is the Benitez update thread.  Not the Rafa when he was at Liverpool thread.

and Maureen was never here but if you have a gander and read the drivel some have to say about him you'd think he was an LFC legend

Not exactly... but if its going to escalate into another war between pros and anti's, then whats the point?  its been done to death by this stage.

We have plenty of threads to discuss Liverpool and Roy.  We should just leave this one for the people interested in how Rafa gets on in his new job.

Its not as easy as that though.
When Rafa is being discussed now its hard not to compare or discuss his time at LFC.
And to be fair its an interesting thread, i am intrigued to see how he gets on and have quite strong views about him so will feel the need to input it in here. As there isnt anywhere else really, as you get moaned at if he is brought up on the main board these days by both pro's and anti's  :D
