Oh yeah sure Mick, Liverpool can go from good-enough-to-challenge-for-the-title squad (it's all down to the manager) to the squad that is lacking in a few things because Carra is aging even though we added Joe Cole and Meireless to the previous good-enough-to-challenge-for-the-title squad. But obviously this doesn't apply to Inter now does it Mick? 

Before anyone accuses me, I'm not defending Rafa. He has a very good squad with Inter, better than Liverpool's and he should do well in the CL with that squad. But it's not what people make out to be on here that with that sqaud any manager should win anything. The fact is that inter has an aging squad Zanetti is 37 for crying out loud, makes Carra looks like a teenager. Walter Samuel, Lucio, Stankovic are all 32. Milito is 31!. And Cambiasso, IMO the best defensive midfielder in the world better than Mascherano, is 30.

There just seems to be too much hatred going on here regarding Rafa it's unbelievable. It will take Roy time to impose his playin style on the team by which time everything will be rosy again whereas Rafa should be winning everything with Inter's squad. Don't tell me people don't realise this double standard...

Magus I covered the "our squad is good enough to challenge for the title" question in the "top four" thread I think it was. I gave a very full answer there, and since in football song parlance "it's all gone quiet over there" since, I can only guess that those who raised it were satisfied that the explanation was logical. You will be too if you read it I'm sure, as like them you are confusing yourself and the seasons up a bit.

On the question of Roy being given time whereas some people expect Rafa to hit the ground running, I don't see the contradiction to be totally honest. One of them has taken over a team which finished 7th in the league, won feck all for four seasons and lost 19 matches last season. The other has taken over a team which won everything last season and has won the league title in their country five seasons on the bounce.

Given the fact that Inter haven't been forced financially to sell any first team players to the best of my knowledge, surely it is reasonable to expect the new manager to make a fist of carrying on where the previous two left off  Roy has to improve on where the previous manager left off, which is why it takes time.

You surprise me sometimes when you can't get such a seemingly obvious concept to be totally honest. You don't surprise me though with the getting the excuses in nice and early Two games in or whatever it is and already the squad is "ageing". It was only three months ago they were winning the Champions League, three months is obviously a long time in football .

I'm not giving excuses Mick. I point out double standards and hypocricies. And I only have a passing interest in Inter and Rafa. In fact this is only my 2nd post in this thread. I'm not sure how to do the number of posts by members thingy for a certain topic that some did a while back. But I'm sure that if someone could do this, the majority of the posts will turn out to be by the 'previous' anti-rafa group. Some on here are consumed with hatred for Rafa that they are waiting for him to fail even at Inter, AFTER he has moved on. This is all because they could say 'I told you so' to the other group. It seems pathetic really and in a sense I take pity on them. I sure hope that you are not one of them even though you doing a good job looking like one but then again it might just be your tediousness.

I'm sure though that I haven't mixed up the seasons. Plenty of posters on here have used the "the squad is good enough it's the manager" stick to hit Rafa with plenty of times last season.

As for the reason that "it's all gone quiet" in the thread that you provided your so called "explanation" does not necessarily mean that people agree with you MegaMick. It might just mean that people are just tired of your tediousness. I know I do sometimes. And that was the reason I thought twice when you asked for a debate on the different treatments on this forum between Roy and Rafa in the Roy Hodgson thread. People has been explaining and explaining but you still managed to ask this question. And you are surprised that I couldn't grasp such a simple concept    . I have actually written a reply halfway through in that thread but decided to abort it because I couldn't spend so much time as I had brought back some work home.

As for getting in early excuses, who are the ones that is content with a point against the mancs and start to dampen their expectations? Who are the ones that highlight "oh we have only lost 1 game in 10 competitive matches" failing to realise that we have only got 5 points out of a possible 12 and already registered a defeat in the 2nd game of the league? Roy is supposed to be an improvement over Rafa or so some on here were told and so far I'm disappointed with what I see. Achieving 6th or 5th will not be considered improvement because we'll still end up in th Europa League. Getting into the top 4 is the only improvement that LFC should expect and so far it's not looking good.

But anyway I'll agree to disagree and let you lot go on with your business.

Former Reds boss 'surprised' by Ferguson's comments

Inter Milan head coach Rafa Benitez has hit back at Sir Alex Ferguson's claims that he was the reason behind Liverpool's slump.

The Spaniard was in charge at Anfield for six years, guiding the Reds to a historic fifth European Cup in his first season in charge.

Benitez also won the FA Cup, amongst other honours, and reached the 2007 Champions League Final.

The Nerazzurri boss remained unable to win the Premier League with Liverpool and he was only able to secure a highest-placed finish of second spot in 2008-09.

The Manchester United boss claimed that the Anfield giants spent more money on players and had a bigger squad than his under Benitez's management.

Ferguson also said he enjoyed a good relationship with the Liverpool managers down the years, however, that all changed when Benitez took over at the helm.

Benitez has now hit back with a statement on the official Inter Milan website: "I am honestly surprised that an experienced and important manager like him said these things and spoke so much about me, considering I've been in Italy for three months.

"I can only add that the Liverpool fans know the story and they know the truth.

"They also know it's easy to judge when you've been in power for 24 years."

They won their last match 2-1 against Palermo. 
So far, they're second in Serie A after only 3 games.  2 wins and a draw.
I believe they're playing Bari next at the San Siro then they have 2 tough ties against Roma and juve.

They also won the Italian SuperCup in pre season.
