Looks very promising, cross fingers it will work out.

Could be an exciting year if we get that buzz back......

Cole has made an encouraging start - long way to go yet - the last missing piece in jigsaw had a really good six month start .

the joe cole euphoria is all well and good, but maybe its getting a bit ridiculous now.... :D

Joe Cole is better than Lionel Messi, claims Liverpool's Steven Gerrard

• Captain excited about new era after 'horror' of last season
• 'Anything Messi can do, Joe can do as well, if not better'

"Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool are set for a bright new era under Roy Hodgson after the "horror" of last season – and claims that the new signing Joe Cole is better than Barcelona's Lionel Messi.

Gerrard, in an interview with Match of the Day magazine, said the new manager has already given Liverpool a lift after a disappointing seventh-place finish last season.

"It's a great club and after speaking with Roy Hodgson I'm really pleased to see his plans for the club. It's a new era now – we must forget about the horror of what happened last season and get this club back to where it belongs, which is the Champions League at the very least."

Gerrard said Cole, signed in July on a Bosman from Chelsea, has the ability to drive the team forward.

"[Lionel] Messi can do some amazing things, but anything he can do Joe can do as well, if not better. He used to shock us in training by doing footy tricks with a golf ball that most players can't even do with a football. I really fancy Joe for the [player of the year] award this season.""

Is it me or does Gerrard seem to be a fraction more positive than he is normally? My suspicion remains that those who felt he was bound to leave simply because we'd changed our manager couldn't have been further wrong if they'd tried.

That statement reeks more of desperation imo, but i hope he proves me wrong. I'll wait until he actually plays a real game for us.

Or maybe Gerrard really didnt have anywhere to go - As someone said couple weeks ago - Gerrard is too old to buy for 30 mil but too good to sell for less - there was only one club that would of done it and that was Madrid and they decided he was too old to spend that much on . IMO if they had put the offer in then Gerrard IMO would of gone to Madrid .

That's not really my point. You could say the same thing about Torres and Barcelona. My point is he seems very happy in himself, and as I said those (of which you were one) who predicted he would be desperate to get away simply because Rafa had gone actually had it the wrong way around IMHO.

I never mentioned at all that Gerrard would leave because the previous manager had gone - i thought he would leave because of the situation the club is in at present .

As for looking very happy in himself - its a bit early to judge and i have no doubt we will see him sulking soon enough .Lets see how he is after the first 6 or so games where we could easily see ourselves already behind with the teams we have to play .

Getting off to a flyer was essential to the players the fans everyone to banish the horrors of last season but its going to be damn hard to achieve that with the fixtures we have been dealt with - get through them unbeaten and its a whole different story .

Its going to be a hard long slog of a season and i have a feeling  unfortuantly it may well end up in disappointment . IMO
