If Gerrard is to play the Alonso role of playmaker with Cole behind Torres then all well and good but if Cole is out wide with Gerrard behind Torres and Lucas alongisde Aquilani I rather fear that Torres and Gerrard being nullified out of games like they were last season will be a recurring problem.

Before seeing him play last night I said I would have given Chelsea £6m and Yossi who I was never a massive fan of. His ability to run into brick walls could only be surpassed by Babbel !! Don't quite know what Ancelotti has seen!

Well done Joe - great start - Torres is going to love you !!!!!!!

I know he was the best player on the pitch last night and the amount of chances he set up for Ngog was unbelievable, goes without saying Ngog is sh!t and if Torres was in that position he would of had about 4 goals.

If Gerrard Cole and Torres are on form this season they will be a handful for anyone

Happy Days!!

Come on he took his goal well but unfortunately as you say he is s.hit !!! LOL  :D

I think it would be a mistake to get to carried away particularly given the quality of opposition last night. If Cole is to create chances for Torres against premiership teams who will pack their defences home and away he'll have to play better consistently than he did last night. I'm optimistic he will do so but I think it's very very early in the season at the moment. Ngog will have to be more clinical against premiership opposition than he was last night when Torres isn't fit. For me it's a good start under Hodgson but the jury is still out for me as far as the premiership is concerned.

Yossi's a handy little nuisance from an attacking point of view, but I'd rather have Cole.

That said, will the blues get more games out of Yossi than we do out of Cole? I'd say it may break even as Yossi may struggle to get into their XI, he was principally in our side for want of a quality LM.

Cole vs Benayoun Premiership apps

09/10 Benayoun : 6 goals in 28 apps
09/10 Cole : 2 goals in 25 apps

08/09 Benayoun : 8 goals in 32 apps
08/09 Cole : 2 goals in 14 apps

07/08 Benayoun : 4 goals in 30 apps
07/08 Cole : 7 goals in 33 apps

06/07 Benayoun : 3 goals in 29 apps
06/07 Cole : 0 goals in 10 apps

05/06 Benayoun : 5 goals in 34 apps
05/06 Cole : 8 goals in 34 apps

05/06-09/10 Benayoun 26 goals in 153 apps (1 in 6)
05/06-09/10 Cole 19 goals in 116 apps (1 in 6)

Despite his talent, Cole hasn't really scored the goals he should - even in the Chelsea side. In his best season he scored 11 goals in all competitions, 46 apps so around 1 in 4. It isn't all about goals obviously, but over the last five seasons Benayoun played in around seven Premiership games a season more and most importantly, didn't miss more than 10 games in any one season which in a 38 game season is important.

But as said, will he be good enough to be a regular starter with the likes of fat frank, Malouda, Deco, Kakuta, Kalou, Zirkov (depending where he gets played) and now Ramires there.

Thanks for posting that.

I haven't watched any of our games in pre-season.

But from watching that clip farking hell, he looks lively, quick, eager and has some lovely skills. I think it will be much more of a pleasure watching us this year with him in the side and we'll look so much more dangerous because of it. Hope he stays injury free, great signing!

What Ancelotti saw is the same tactical deficiencies Capello saw in SA. And even in this game, u could see it, even with such mediocre opposition. What Hodgson does with Gerrard and Cole will go a long way in determining the success of the team this season...

The lad's movement and technical ability are second to none. Certainly gives us something different aswell. I'm genuinely excited.

Looking at the fact that Joe has been left out of the england squad just goes to prove that Cappello is totallyanti-flair players.

I am not too bopthered about Joe being left out as this is a pointless friendly with totally wrong timing set up by the brainless baffoons at the FA who honestly thought we would be parading the World Cup to the fans at Wembly
