Reports in Spain today claim that Maxi Rodriguez could leave Liverpool for Espanyol.

It is claimed that new Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has told the player he can leave if he can find a new club.

Today's report by Mundo Deportivo reads (translated): 'Espanyol is negotiating with the agent (he belongs to the Enterprise IMG) who could make it official in the coming hours.

'All parties seem to agree to close the transaction but there is only one obstacle: the high cost of Maxi Rodriguez. Espanyol are not willing to make a huge financial outlay.'

The Liverpool midfielder played for Espanyol between 2002 and 2005 before joining Atletico Madrid.

Former Reds boss Rafa Benitez brought him in on a free transfer and he has 3.5 years remaining on his contract.

I suppose if mascherano goes and with insua going it would seem likely that he might follow them out of the door.
I think he is a good player and one that i would look to keep if possible tbh.
If he were to go the fact that he has a 3.5 year contract would mean we would get some sort of fee wouldnt we ?  ???

to be honest, he's hardly set the world alight at Anfield. If Roy doesn't want him then get rid.

Agreed.

He is another one that for me is in the "does a job" bracket and if Roy doesn't fancy him then he might as well get rid of him.

I reckon we can get £2m for him. Not bad business really considering he came on a free.

I thought the lad played better every time he got a game last season. Dumb move if we get rid of him, Hodgson hasn't even seen him play yet so it seems crazy to get shot so quick if that is what happens.

He might not be good enough for some of the esteemed football experts in this place but it seems he's plenty good enough for our Captain. See quotes below.

"Maxi is a fantastic player," said Gerrard.

"He's got good movement and as a footballer it's a pleasure to play with good players and that's what Maxi is because he's a fantastic player.

"He was really fresh and that showed in his performance and he took his goal really well.

"He has been terrific for us in the last five or six games. It's unfortunate for us he can't play in the Europa League because he is an intelligent player and he can unlock defences."

I hope it's not true as well scott... having both maxi and kuyt for the LM position is quite a good deal for the club... in fact maxi has been better than Kuyt in those last few games of last season...

I think he's about as suited to the Premiership as Julian Clary. Get rid.

Wouldnt get rid... I dont think we'd get any sort of decent money for him and I think he's a player who will improve as he adapts to the league...

Not a flashy player but he doesnt lose the ball and is good at keeping possession higher up... Not a bad finisher when he gets the chance and I think if he plays is a side that has good attacking players then he can do a job for us...

We only signed him a few months ago, no reason whatsoever to be selling him so soon...

+ We only have Kuyt as a decent right wing/right forward option with Cole maybe doing a job there if needed... We've gotten rid of Riera and Benny and i wouldnt want us losing more players we'll probably struggle to replace given the money we sold for..
