"He's got good movement and as a footballer it's a pleasure to play with good players and that's what Maxi is because he's a fantastic player.

"He was really fresh and that showed in his performance and he took his goal really well.

"He has been terrific for us in the last five or six games. It's unfortunate for us he can't play in the Europa League because he is an intelligent player and he can unlock defences."

for me hes one of those kind of players who does nothing if he isnt scoring goals

cant beat a man, cant cross, all his assists are simple square passes, to lightweight for the prem

poor player, hasnt had one game for us over 6/10

Sky Sports are saying he may be off to Espanyol... would be a shame. I rate him.

An assist's an assist, the simpler ones PASSES/CROSSES are quite often the most effective.

Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

don't want to be pernickity here, but how can one assist be more affective than another?

I was meaning the simpler passes

EDIT : A little square pass a few yards as opposed to trying to thread a ball through the eye of the needle. You might try a fancy pass 100 times and end up with 5 assists, try simple passes 100 times and end up with 20+ assists.

i think Torres would agree, world cup final, him and pedro? pedro just needed to simple square pass it to torres for a certain goal.

One touch link man who carries a reasonable goal threat. I would say that we need someone on the right who possesses these qualities to help us against stubborn defences. Kuyt doesn't provide it, but we would get that - and more - with Pacheco, so I wouldn't be that disappointed to see him leave.

He was very good against Sunderland last season. If he wasn't above 6/10 in that game, neither was Gerrard.

I have said this before .... but I think the solution to our problem would be to partner Maxi upfront with Torres
who has played as a striker on a number of occasions for different teams

You have said it before Red, and on each occasion you said I thought about it and couldn't agree mate. I didn't bother saying so at the time because everyones got a theory and they're entitled to it, but since you bring it up again I might as well give my opinion for what little it's worth.

IMHO Maxi Rodriguez is totally unsuited to English Football and was overpriced as a free transfer on his wages. He is unsuited to it in wide midfield even, so in the hurly burly of playing up top/in the hole he would disappear without trace in my opinion. When people talk about Roy making panic buys, they ought to cast their minds back a bit because Rodriguez was in my opinion a classic panic buy.

In the unlikely event we can get someone to take him off our hands and pay his wages instead of us paying him to sit on his erse, then we should.

I disagree Mick ...if Maxi has anything about him its his ability to read the play ...this is essential in a strikers game as you well know ... I think that's why a number of Managers have deployed him in this position simply because of his knack (which he has proved time and time again ) of showing  at times a sublime first touch to make space for himself in order to get off a shot on goal
I think given our complete lack of options visa vie Ngog or God love us Babel... then Rodriguez would make a complimentary foil for Torres
(coincidentally they linked up quite well for Athletico )....... so I would disagree there mate and as for a panic buy I genuinely believe Rafa brought him in to add quality to the team... which I don't think its open to debate he  undoubtedly possesses ,but I wouldn't say buying a proven Argentine and current International was indeed a panic buy .... but like you say its all about opinions mine is that Maxi would fill a gap due to our glaring lack of quality to partner Torres .....
