Seems to have been a fair bit of underhanded tactics during the World Cup, leading up to, and after. The Barca contingent trying to pull Fabregas away from Arsenal being the prime example. Far too much goes on via the media, interest in players declared long before any fee is agreed.

I was under the impression Jol was set to be the new Fulham manager, but reading the BBC report Ajax are refusing to discuss compensation. Push comes to shove he can walk out and he and spudz can contest the compensation via a tribunal. Sooner or later we'll get a Bosman style ruling for managers, although in the most part they are settled via compensation being agreed.

When Ballotelli finally signs for one of the mancs then we'll receive a bid from mr benitez. He knows 30m will be good enough. He gets rid of the brat and buys the rat!

30m for us, i like to see cisshoko from lyon. johnson from citeh (michael). Raul and diarra from real. That would prob cost us only 30m for all four.

Wages i know, but riera goes along with insua and benayoun. thats 16m in. plus masch at 30m. 46m recouped. 15m kitty. Yet we only spend 30m. Roy happy, and then maybe another top player. For me,  lets look at ashley young or Mueller.

Mascherano set to leave Liverpool after talks    July 26, 2010

Javier Mascherano has been told he can leave Liverpool, according to ESPNsoccernet sources, having held talks with the Liverpool hierarchy on Monday.

Mascherano, who captained Argentina at the World Cup, spoke with manager Roy Hodgson after returning from holiday, having previously ignored the new manager's attempts to contact him.

A source close to Mascherano told Soccernet: "The talks were extremely amicable. It was all done in a very nice way. Javier made it clear that he wanted to leave a year ago when he had the chance to go to Barcelona.

"He was asked to stay on for one more year, he agreed, so now it is time for him to go. It was all very pleasant and it is now a question of the two clubs who are interested in him making an acceptable offer to Liverpool."

Hodgson held talks with skipper Steven Gerrard and convinced him to stay, but has failed to convince Mascherano, who now looks likely to rejoin former manager Rafael Benitez at Inter Milan or seal a move to Spanish champions Barcelona, who are looking to replace Yaya Toure after admitting defeat over Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas.

Goodbye Little Chief ...
If Mascherano is set on leaving for Inter then it should be in a Swap with Thiago Motta as well as 20 million ...Motta is known for his strong tackling and precision passing .... for me personally he is one of those Midfielder's    who will always create space for himself as well as providing that killer ball, he also possesses a rocket of a shot ... I would see him slotting into Liverpool's midfield with  the minimum of fuss

if true then sell for 30 mill and let Roy find a replacement. Personally, i think he'll get a good defensive midfielder for 15 mill and free up the rest for a striker..

we'll see...

Would be an excellent deal imo... I quite like Thiago Motta too but i think he'd get sent off too often for us if given added defensive responsibilities.. I see him as someone who does better as part of a 2holding midfield setup.. He's not that disciplined in terms of positioning and despite vastly improving last season in all departments, i still think he commits too early for the challenge which would no doubt give away needless freekicks around the box...

Other players we might want to consider as part of a deal:

- Chivu (A better leftback and centerback than anything we have/have been linked to)

- Balotelli (one of the most talented young players in world football... Doesnt have the right attitude sometimes but to me if a manager out there succeeds in getting the best out of him then he could become as good as C.Ronaldo and Messi...

- Stankovic ( despite his age, he's still one of the best CMs out there.. tactically as sound as they come and offers plenty at both end... wouldnt cost much and would be better than Aquilani and Gerrard in the CM position)

If we decide to talk to Barcelona.. theres quite a few players who could possibly improve our side...

- Seydou Keita (the obvious choice... A much better player than Y.Toure imo but i doubt they'd be willing to part with him)

- G.Millito (solid CB... not his biggest fan but he would be an improvement on Agger/Skrtel if he regains form and fitness)

- Maxwell (i like him better than Abidal... Attacking fullback who helps alot in buildup play... not the best defensively but still better than anything we've been linked to)

- Bojan (interesting striker... would provide excellent cover for Torres.. Not the strongest physically but i think he'd adapt to the English league pretty fast)

Me too, Igor.....

But seriously.... I have my doubts.

Which is why I agree with some posters that I'tll be better if we could get a player exchange plus cash deal. It's a shame that Yahya Toure went to Man City.... If we had known earlier, an exchange with Barcelona would most probably have served us best.

Wouldn't afford his wages thou... he's on over £150k is he not?

When he goes - We should make a bid for Scott Parker, we need a British morale squad.
