we should concetrate on supporting our manager :D
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

He's preparing the team for the start of the season so he hasn't time to roam Europe negotiating with potential transfer targets or their clubs. That's really not his role anyway, it's predominantly for the chief exec to take care of and so long Hodgson has the final say on who stayrs or goes, that's fine by me. There can't be many managers who do all the legwork and negotiating themselves.

So Purslow is doing the selling and buying of players - he is a banker FFS - brought in to find investment for the club and he is now dealing with transfers - WTF does he know about football ?!

It seems like Hodgson is going to be given a squad of players and told to do his best - can see a few freebies arrive and maybe two mid range players (ie up to ten mill each ) . Not exactly the players people like Torres were saying the team needed - good luck Hodgson - you are going to need it

So aside from the actual coaching of the team what exactly does Hodsgen have control over?

Who knows bav - I suspect Hodgson has given purslow a list of players he wants and Purslow decides who to go get within budget

That's possible Ben. But if that were true his comments about Remey would seem out of place. Unless he was just trying to throw everyone off. He does do that from time to time. Remember the season before last he said prior to the UTD game that people shouldn't expect Fulham to put up too much of a fight against them and they went and beat them soundly.

Depends what you mean by "doing". If he's "doing" the negotiations over price with the club, and over the contractual terms with the player and his agent(s), that's fine. If however he's choosing who to purchase and who to sell and the manager has no input, then I might be concerned. At this point in time, I'm far from convinced that Hodgson will have no input into who stays, who goes and who is brought in.

It's worth bearing mind too that when people complained about who was doing the appointing of the new manager that Dalglish actually had some input into that process and that even though Purslow was also involved, you will find a multitude of flight clubs who have chief executives with backgrounds in business or finance or similar. David Gill for instance has a background in accounting. There is nothing wrong with that per se.

So far it's just paper gossip with regards to Remy - the player himself has said he would love to be at the club so the paper adds two and two together and comes up with 5 and bang we are bidding for him .

But isn't it reported that Dalglish was pretty much ignored as he wanted to job himself and didn't think Hodgson should get the job ?! I expect Hodgson has given a wish list to Cecil and he will pick which players to bring in that make the most financial sense - I hope I'm way if the mark but at the moment i don't think I am

And comparing Purslow to Gill I think is way off the mark - I expect Ferguson tell Gill to get a certain player and off Gill goes - Ferguson holds the cards whereas I believe Purslow holds ours

Kenny wanted the job and by definition that means he thought he was the most suitable candidate for the job. It doesn't mean he thought all the other candidates were sh!t. Once the appointment had been made he offered his backing to Roy saying he "..looked very favourably on the appointment. I have known Roy for a long tiome and have great respect for him".

To the second part, we don't know. Obviously they'll be working to a budget and how the signings are prioritised within that budget probably will involve Hodgson.

Off course kenny will say something positive - he isn't going to come out and say any different .

I think the transfers will be in priority of finance as opposed to anything else
