I'll do what I've always done with Liverpool managers, support them until they've categorically proven they aren't taking the club forward having been given a good go. I think Roy is a good appointment who will do a good job, and as such I think he deserves A MINIMUM of three seasons to see what he's all about. That doesn't mean of course that you'd agree with every selection or every purchase (and of course you can say so on a forum), but it does mean that any sensible supporter should be prepared to give him a fair crack of the whip. Not all will (as some have incredibly shown already), but most who have a resemblance of a clue will.
Two of the main things which frustrated me with fans previously were the fact that if you criticised a substitution it meant you weren't a "real fan", and secondly peolpe were extremely reluctant to talk about a minimum standard of achievement (just as well as it turned out but I digress) for the manager. I won't be doing either of those things with the new manager. People can criticise before he's even had a game in charge, they can wrist slash, head bash and teeth gnash, they can doom and gloom till their hearts content, and it's all good. Roy doesn't read newkit I'm sure of it, and just as I said it was OK to criticise the previous manager on here (not abuse though obviously, I never did that) it's ok for those that see fit to criticise Roy. I'm not going to berate people for taking the p!ss out of the way the man talks, for showing absolutely no respect whatsoever even though he's our manager, that's for the other people to reconcile with themselves. Equally, the irony of their stance in comparison to previous managers is for them to come to terms with, and I'll not be getting embroiled in discussions on the subject.
On the question of "minimum standard", well I agree with the majority. There's little point in sacking a manager to replace him with someone who doesn't do the job any better. To that end, if Roy (or Woy for those who choose to disrepect him) can't get us to finish higher than seventh THIS SEASON and can't get us to see of the likes of Reading at Home in the Cup, AND can't get us to play better football than the dross we served up last season, then he will rightly come under pressure. That is my minimum standard. I'll even go further and answer some of the inevitable questions which will no doubt come in (mixed in of course with the inevitable insults), this applies EVEN IF WE SELL GERRARD AND MASHERANO.
If we can't finish higher than seventh, Roy will come under pressure. Not from me obviously, because I think he should be given a minimum of three seasons, but from some of our less patient fans. Some are on his case before he's even had a game, so it's inevitable that that particular faction will grow if the team doesn't improve.
