Roy on Gerrard suppose thats Gerrard off then because theres no money for world class players to join, atleast Roys being honest with him.

“It’s not words that Stevie wants – he wants actions. He wants to see the club make strides forward.
“He wants to see that alongside players of his quality there will be other players of that quality being signed by the club.
“And, of course, he is wise enough to know that I cannot give him that guarantee and he wouldn’t expect me to. He wouldn’t respect me if I was trying to give him some line of bullsh*t that he would see through.
“My job with him is to try and explain to him that I have come to Liverpool because I want to work with people like Steven Gerrard.
“I’m hoping that he will have enough loyalty to the club and will be interested enough to work with me.”

Dalglish backing for Hodgson

Kenny Dalglish has thrown his backing behind Roy Hodgson's appointment as Liverpool boss.

Kop legend Dalglish, a club ambassador, was initially due to help in the search for Rafa Benitez's replacement alongside managing director Christian Purslow.

However, former Reds chief Dalglish declared his interest in returning to the hot-seat at Anfield, but in the end the club opted for Fulham boss Hodgson.

But Dalglish has no issues with Hodgson and insists he is more than happy with his arrival at the club.

"I look very favourably on the appointment," Dalglish declared.

"I have known Roy a long time and have a great respect for him.

"We've not had detailed conversations yet but my interests are in Liverpool
Hodgson confirmed he had no issues with Dalglish and was looking forward to working with him, revealing he has been offered the role of head of football development.

"I don't feel at all awkward about the situation,'" he said.

"Kenny was entitled to suggest to the board that he wanted to be considered. The board made it clear to me that they didn't want that to happen, as the chairman (Martin Broughton) has outlined.

"As far as I'm concerned, it shouldn't affect my relationship with Kenny in any way.

"I'm happy to have him on board at this club and he has been offered a new role, with the very important title of head of football development.

"With us having to have a certain amount of homegrown players and under-21 players, the way Ken can use his football knowledge to build a bridge between Kirkby and Melwood can be hugely beneficial.

"When you have someone like Kenny Dalglish, you want him to be at the club for the foreseeable future, for 10-15 years just like Sir Bobby Charlton at Manchester United.

"There are so many roles he can play to help Liverpool FC and that will outlive my tenure at the club."

-----------

So Kenny's now Head of Football Development"  ???

Sadly I think that means little.

All Broughton was doing at the press conference was making it clear that if Torres & Gerrard do go, it will be because they chose to, and not because the club wanted them to.

I fear he is just clearing himself and the club's hierarchy from any backlash if our major players leave.

He is sort of putting the ball in the player's courts now.  I still think we are likely to lose possibly all three of Masch, Torres and Gerrard.  Then it will all be down to how well Roy can spend the £100m or so that will generate (if he gets it all to spend).

That amount of cash in one window will be hard to spend well I think, as the players just won't be available, and we are still likely to be outbid by City and Chelsea for the top players.

Worrying times.  If we lose the big three, and can't replace this window I don't fancy this as our first 11...

                 Reina

Johnson  Carra   Agger  Insua

Kuyt     Aqua    Lucas    Riera

         Jovanovich  Ngog

Beyond this first 11, the quality of the rest of the squad doesn't bear thinking about!!

I have no problem with Roy as manager, as in our current state we could not really attract better.  I just hope he has something to work with or else we won't finish above Fulham!!

look like the clear out of players will start with the 30 young players Rafa took to the club, it seem that the board are unhappy that we have a youth team with almost no english players in it.

there was a good bit with  Aldridge on Five live yesterday, he was saying that we only took 2 english youth players to the club in the last few years, he also said that there was a few 500k payments made to the none enlish players.

make you wonder how much we have spent on players over the years that have never made it into the first team.

Was this during the press conference?

He was supposed to meet Stevie and Carra last night. Was just wondering if anything has come out since then.

im not very happy with Roys appointment but i liked his first interview... fairly standard at least.
i think he has good intentions at least and im already sympathising with him the same way i did with Rafa cos the tools he'll be supplied with won't align with his targets.

lets get behind him and hope he can work some miracles.
