ROY HODGSON - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Go on Kenny! Hope he takes up Hodgsons offer of a new expanded role, we need him here:

Kenny Dalglish has backed the appointment of Roy Hodgson as the new Liverpool manager.

Dalglish was a contender to replace Rafael Benitez at Anfield but has given his approval to the former Fulham boss, who took over at the Barclays Premier League club yesterday.

The Scot said in the Daily Mail: 'I look very favourably on the appointment.

'I have known Roy a long time and have a great respect for him.

'We've not had detailed conversations yet but my interests are in Liverpool.'

Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton yesterday confirmed that Dalglish had been keen on the vacant managerial seat at Anfield, but added that he was never a serious candidate

Is that a token position so as to not anger the fans any more or is he actually going to have some input into development?

i think the club are much better off with kenny in a positon like that than manager.

don't get me wrong i don't doubt kenny's ability but with him in a role like the one mentioned he can be with our club for years to come and that would be unlikely if he became the manager

so please kenny take up the offer

i'f also like to echo the comments made about roy's first interview - it was great to see a liverpool manager that answered questions but also made it clear that it was nothing to do with him what happened with the ownership. i think towards the end Rafa got himself a little caught up in the matters above and lost site of the matters on the pitch. I was ok with roy's appointment before the interview but now after the interview i have hope that the ups and downs of out club could be coming to an end

I think people need to get over the fact that Hodgson was chosen over Dalglish. I can't remember where I read it but somebody wrote that from the perspective of making the club more attractive ot buyers, Hodgson is the better choice. If Kenny had been appointed, even as interim manager, any new owners would be faced with a potentially controversial decision to make Keep Kenny and perhaps not have the best for the club / team or get rid and risk the ire of the fans. I know it's Friday but I'm trying to look for all of the positives possible. Perhaps the appointment of Hodgson is another sign that the sale of the club is the priority. Either way, Hodgson is the man so we should support him (The Liverpool Way).

there was a good bit with  Aldridge on Five live yesterday, he was saying that we only took 2 english youth players to the club in the last few years, he also said that there was a few 500k payments made to the none enlish players.

make you wonder how much we have spent on players over the years that have never made it into the first team.

Thats strange cause when i look there is plenty of english lads and im sure when i watched the recent under 19 european champs which england one im pretty sure i saw two liverpool lads in the starting line up and one more on the bench

he didn't say that benny ,i was listening to the same program in work . He said ,there were alot of youth team players that rafa bought around the £100,000 mark . The conversation was not even about Liverpool ,it was about youth developement in english football . ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING was mention about getting rid of youth players or that these youth players were not good enough for LFC . Lakes putting his own spin on things as usual.

Thought so plus that new rule is coming in for 8 home grown players. but lets blame rafa for that even though the new rule came in this week.

Its 35 degrees here and Im stuck in the house i blame Rafa for bringing the spanish weather here  :glare:
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

So Martin Broughton and Christian Purslow had a say in who our next manager was, did Hicks and Gillett have no say in the matter?
