Liverpool Football Club - Games

Team looked tired to be honest. A lot of ground was covered chasing the Wigan players, they have some fast players. Chelsea game was none stop an all!

Those who posted last on Sunday about give him a chance. Well tonight is the reality of his ambition and his ability to change a game none.

7 away wins hes had in the prem between us, Blackburn and Fulham over 68 games.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Yet we still seemed to at least look to go forward against chelsea - where as tonight no ambition to go forward at all - and against chelsea we didnt really see much of the ball second half to pass it .

Whatever attitude we had against chelsea wasnt there tonight for whatever reason. Simple

The players after 15 mins decided to sit deep and defend - what reason woudl they do that if it wasnt in the tactics or set up of which the manager was responsible - the last 75 mins was exactly what we had seen against everton anf blackpool etc

i agree with this.

roy was satisfied with the solitary goal and decided to turn us into fulham.

his away record scares me alot.

???

so how is this relevant? it doesn't mean that when you sit deep you can't pass the ball. You can sit deep and pass the ball in your own area without going forward or losing it, like a ping ball machine. Well, we couldn't do this today, thats because Wigan were pressing everytime we had the ball, something that Chelsea didn't do.

that is a statistic no top level manager should have.

NESV has to act quick.

and even more so if there was an ounce of truth to those rumours alleging he's willing to give up pacheco and agger for some french guy.

its worth noting that pacheco was nowhere near the bench today. something is on the cards. i know babel wasnt either but that's understandable. but if he's willing to use one of our brightest young players in a deal to bring some other player in, i will never forgive him.

passing was the problem, if you can not get your passing right you dont get the ball and you end up sitting in your own halfmost of the game on your back foot....like tonight.

passing passing

And what does he do? Brings of a decent player in Merieles and brings on a rookie Jonjo. I am really excited by Jonjo but tonight wasn't the right sort of game for him to come into, not unless we were 3-0 with 15 mins to go.

dont know about Merieles mate, another forum posted that he was ill at halftime

as for Jonjo, yer i think he has it in him to be a good player...but not yet but we all did say before the game the bench was weak. we are short of fit players and the manager cant take the blame for that.

no idea why ngog did not come on....unfit? dont know

What about Pacheco? What's wrong with him?

Roy probably doesn't even rate him any more. Read some rumor on here the other day that a Jan deal is all but done. Was supposed to be him and Agger for some French guy.

word on the street is that he arrived late for training or something before the Napoli match.

we need to stop playing central midfielders on the right.  Both Raul and Jonjo do not play well out there.

Sooooooooooooooooooo frustrating. We drop so deep and invite the opposition to push and press us deep in our own half - this leads to so many sloppy passes and f*cking 60yd hoofs. This is most definitely down to the managers tactics and he needs to address this but I fear that if he hasnt after some of those terrible away performances earlier in the season he isnt going to change now. C'mon Roy, reach for the stars lad and shake off this "small club" mentality and stigma.

Martin Kelly got a wild roasting from Figueroa and N'Zogbia tonight once Merieles went off. Something wlse for the gaffa to address before Saturday evening.

Roy Hodgson felt his side paid the price for their recent exertions as they produced what he described as a 'tired' performance in the 1-1 draw at Wigan.

The Reds had looked set to extend their winning run to five matches when Fernando Torres fired home a brilliant opener on six minutes.

However, the home side recovered to level through Hugo Rodallega, leaving the boss frustrated by his team's second-half showing.

"We didn't deserve to win the game," he told his post-match press conference.

"We looked tired today and I don't think our passing was anywhere near as good as we expected it to be. We had a bright start and a bright finish but for a long period in between we weren't anywhere near where I would expect us to be. I think we can be more than happy with the point we got from the game."

He added: "It was a wonderful piece of play from two outstanding players for our goal. It was a marvellous pass and wonderful finish that put us on the front foot. But we didn't capitalise on that. Even though we had a spell when we were pretty much in control, there were also long periods, especially from the start of the second half, where we just invited Wigan on to us.

"We consistently gave the ball away and as a result they took advantage and equalised. We did better towards the end and were perhaps a little bit unlucky with Steven's (Gerrard) shot that hit the underside of the crossbar, but it would have been harsh on Wigan had we won it."

Asked why he felt his side had failed to produce a similar display to the one that saw off Chelsea, Hodgson added: "I'd put that down to Napoli, Blackburn, Bolton and Chelsea - all with a small squad of players.

"We have five injuries at the moment. We finished the game with Martin Kelly, Jonjo Shelvey and Nathan Eccleston. That's what we have at the moment. Hopefully we will get some players back soon.

"Johnson's not fit. I overestimated his short training session and underestimated what would happen after it the following day, so he wasn't fit.

"Now we have to work hard to get players back in the right physical and mental frame of mind for another tough test at Stoke.

"We knew this game would be difficult because Wigan are not a bad side at all. They haven't had a good start themselves and showed they are a good football team on many occasions this evening."

The boss was also quizzed by journalist about his decision to substitute Raul Meireles at half-time.

Hodgson explained: "He was sick. I don't know how long it will take for him to recover. He felt ill just before the game in the warm up. He wanted to play and got through the first half but at half-time he was sick again, so there was no option."

Not good enough. Roy isn't to blame for the quality of the passing, but he is to blame for how deep we played. If Merieles was sick, then I guess the substitution wasn't such a bad idea, though Jovanovic or Ngog with Kuyt on the right may have been a better move in hindsight.

In the end, I felt we saw a return to the bad old days at the beginning of the season. I'm not hopeful of a lot of success with Roy in the seat.
