READING VS LIVERPOOL - R3 5:15

Liverpool Football Club - Games

First round of the cup and its a tricky tie away to Reading. A ground fondly remembered for Nando getting his first hat trick in a Liverpool jersey. I dont think history will repeat itself this time around as I would be surprised if he starts this one.

Reading are not having the best of seasons in the Championship and currently lie in 20th position and lost there last game away to Plymouth 4-1. They are only 2 points out of the relegation zone and are not even a shadow of the team that competed in the Premier League a few seasons ago.

We will probably rest a few players in this one and rightly so. And even with the second string out we still should have enough to get us into the 4th round. I would play Aqualini in this one though to give him some match fitness, he looked out of his depth against Villa and could do with the game time.

Can Rafa afford to write this competition off? Surely it is more prestigious than the Europa League, would get us a Community Shield appearance and I'd welcome a win in this competition more than in Europe.

I feel we may well put out a mixture, rest players like Torres and Gerrard while maintaining a reasonable strength. We've played Reading six times under Rafa, won all but one : P6 W5 D0 L1 F15 A10. Never been that easy :

06/07 LIV 4-3 REA (League Cup)
06/07 LIV 2-0 REA (Premiership)
06/07 REA 1-2 LIV (Premiership)
07/08 REA 2-4 LIV (League Cup)
07/08 REA 3-1 LIV (Premiership)
07/08 LIV 2-1 REA (Premiership)

Even though it was their first time in the top flight we never beat them by more than two goals, and even managed to make a pig's ear out of our last trip to their pit. Should win, but I wouldn't bank on a goalfest.

Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

considering we`ve never played at new wembley and the bitters have i would like us to go for it, surely this is the time to keep the same team again (barring injuries) and build on recent results.

Diego Cav

Degen                  Kelly                       Skrtel               Aurelio

Babel                   Lucas                      Aquilani            Dossena

                          Ngog                       Pacheco

Considering that aquilani needs game time , this will be a good game for him to get more match fitness and experiment with his style and range of passing , Babel with one final chance to impress , if he doesn't than too bad and feck off .

Hmmm, we haven't CL semifinals this year, and for that matter, I'd give the Reading FA cup game the importance it deserves.

Agreed. Think there will be changes due to injury/protection like Johnson and Torres but I wouldn't go mental and make lots of changes. We need to take the FA Cup v.serious and Rafa will know that.

take this game seriously, win the FA cup, the UEFA cup and finish third and I'll be happy in May
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

I agree with you mate, I'd be inclined to play the 1st XI for confidence reasons, go h'ell for leather 3-0 up then take the foot off the peddle and save energy for the Spurs game but the 1st XI need to have the satisfaction of a third win - its not time to start changing a settled team.

Torres has a good record against Reading. Hope Pacheco gets a run out too.
