Liverpool Vs Wigan - Sat, 3pm KO!

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby Kenny Kan » Wed Nov 14, 2012 10:52 am

We host Wigan on Saturday, who in this corresponding fixture last year beat us 2-1. For Brendan and the lads it's imperative now they start picking up wins, for me, with this fixture coming up there can be NO excuses if points are dropped.

Wigan (h)
Young Boys (h)
Swansea (a)
Tottenham (a)
Southampton (h)
Udinese (a)
West Ham (a)
Aston Villa (h)
Fulham (h)
Stoke (a)
QPR (a)
Sunderland (h)

Now, I'm not one to really pre-empt results but those prem fixtures we have coming up are all very winnable (including the Spurs one).

Starting with Wigan on Saturday the old cliche of 'our season starts here'  :D really does start here, we could really start climbing the table from here on in - we should do. I hope this run of fixtures reaps rewards for us.

My preferred line-up: Baring no injury from pointless internationals, not sure what Rodgers will go with.

-----------------------------------Jones

--------------Johnson----Skertel------Agger-------Enrique (just makes this for me, but he is pretty much f.ucking useless once he gets over the half way line-he's a bit of hinderance to our attack)

                                Gerrard--------Allen
------------------------------------Suso

--------------Sterling                                  Pacheco? (not sure really, Downing doesn't deserve to start - sub perhaps, Assaidi is injured apparently)
                                           Suarez

Subs: Reina, Carragher, Sahin, Downing, Shelvey, Yesil, Wisdom, Coates

It's a young attack with Suso, Sterling and Pacheco and could be a bit lightweight but the trio up top could do with shuffling about a bit IMO, just to see if we can get goals from elsewhere.

Going to this one so hopefully the 3 points.

Remember being at the one last year where we lost 2-1 a penalty and a stupid mistake by Reina. But i think we have improved alot whether its form wise or the new additions we look a better side.

Reina should return for this one and im hoping Skrtel is partnered by Coates instead of Carragher as Coates gives us something more.

Sahin hasnt looked anything special but this game i anticipate will be a passing one so he should get the nod over Suso or Shelvey.

Heard Assaidi is injured well this game i would have started him as he should get alot of confidence from it. Saying that ive also heard Lucas could make the bench for the game not sure if its true but would be great if he was.

Im hoping for a win and you'd fancy Luis to score 2-0 Red men

                    Reina
Johnson     Skrtel    Coates    Enrique

                Allen       Sahin

                     Gerrard

Sterling           Suarez          Assaidi/Suso

i know it's a cliche but this really is a must win game. they've been a bit of a bogey team for us down the years.

sounds like reina will return in goal. i'd also consider bringing shelvey in for sahin.

2-0 to us.

And playing Gerrard behind Suarez. For Gods sake the man has scored over 20 goals in a season in the past - we've got to use him!!

I certainly think we can beat Wigan and Young Boys, but Swansea and Spurs away… though they are winnable will be very very difficult. After that we have a good chance of taking alot of points, but we can’t really anticipate what happens, Suarez could be banned for the Swansea game if he gets a yellow against Wigan, I’d rather him banned against Swansea then Spurs. Anyway, I digress…

I think we’ll win this game but it wouldn’t surprise me if we draw or even lose because our defence is so fragile. We can’t go into this match with a swollen-head after the Chelski game but we should draw confidence from the fact that it was probably the first-time that WE were bossed all game and that our first attempt on target was a goal.

In terms of line-up, mine would be as follows:

    Jones (why not?)
    Wisdom
    Skrtel
    Agger
    Johnson — LB
    Allen — CDM
    Gerrard
    Shelvey
    Sterling — RW
    Suarez — CF
    Enrique — LW

I’d drop Sahin because he provides nothing at the moment and I think he’s a bit overwhelmed by the physical nature of the PL.

I’d like to rest Allen but I don’t think another player could do a good CDM job as good as he does (obviously Lucas is the man but Allen fills in well).

Shelvey is very very very raw. He makes alot of mistakes but he’s a player, plus he supports Suarez well by getting into scoring positions (even though he made a hash of his chances against Newcastle).

I think Enrique should be on the left-wing — A. Because he was so effective against the Chavs and B. Because he’s better attacking than defending.

Elsewhere I think Jones should start just because I think he’s doing okay and although he makes me nervous I don’t think we should let Reina back in so easily.

Prediction: 4-0  :eyebrow

Come on you Reds!!!

I would have agreed with that but after seeing Allen and Sahin in there the other week, we looked lightweight and soft in the middle there. If you put Allen in their alongside Shelvey we'll look lightweight and naive. After seeing Gerrard play deeper against Chelsea (even though he wasn't/ or will ever be at the pinnacle of his game again), we looked a bit more assured presence wise, and he did pick out some peaches of a pass from deep too. I don't know, because Gerrard going forward is our only other real goal threat - it;s a bit of a conundrum for me.

Pretty sure Wigan play 3-4-3 don't they? They certainly did at Anfield last season.

If that's the case we the best way to approach this is to go 4-4-2 and match them in midfield, but the problem with this is that it can often dampen your own attack. I just don't see us shifting from 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3.

Brendan never mentioned Agger or Skrtel when he was discussing players returning or being out through injury so im guessing they will both be fit. If thats the case it will be the 1st time this season i think we will se my prefered back 5 in Reina Johnson Skrtel Agger and Enrique.

They both didn't play for their country this week and Agger was said to be out for two weeks and Skrtel was said to be ill. Skrtel might have recovered but I think Agger will miss this one.

Assaidi was set to start but he got injured on training. Enrique will play in his role instead. Suso is expected to play central.

It's high time we get a win against these. We've only won once in the last 6 games against them.

Enrique as part of a three man midfield?  ???

sounds dodgy but we'll see how we go

COME ON LIVERPOOL!!!
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
