Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby Eagle » Fri Sep 02, 2022 2:15 pm

This will be a repeat of the Newcastle game with loads of time wasting and niggly fouls. The only way to mitigate that is getting a fast start and goal to open the game up but they'll be real hostile from the off. We haven't had many wins at Goodison Park with 8 of the last 10 matches ending in a draw. Klopp provided a squad update in his pre-match press conference:

- Nunez ready and in good shape after he completed his 3 match ban.
- Jota trained yesterday so will probably make the bench.
- Arthur won’t have international clearance in time but should be available for Napoli on Wednesday.
- We are waiting for the scan results for Henderson and he is out.
- Thiago should rejoin team training next week.
- Keita and Ox have muscle injuries and not due back soon.
- Konate should be back "in and around the international break" later in September
- Calvin Ramsay is getting closer to joining team training but no timelines mentioned.
- No mention of Kelleher

With the short turnaround time after the Newcastle game and Everton having an extra day recovery, we might need to add some fresh legs to the starting 11. We don't have loads of options yet but I'd go with this:

                          Alisson

Trent          Matip          van Djik          Tsimikas

        Elliott          Fabinho          Milner

          Salah          Firmino          Diaz

Subs: Adrian, Robertson, Gomez, Phillips, Bajcetic, Jones, Carvalho, Jota , Nunez

This will be a tough game to be handing out debuts. They will target Nunez in the dirtiest possible way if he starts. This is their game of the season so they will be up for it. That Gordon lad looks dangerous as well so need to keep him in check.

The niggly stuff will be off the charts and pickford alone will waste more time than the entire Newcastle team. After the time wasting they did Tuesday night and Newcastle on Wednesday I hope the refs make a point of stamping it out early with cards.

I hope we fooking batter them by a few goals at least!!

We really need to get back to clean sheets, I’d take a boring 0-0 than a crazy 3-3. We need to start racking up clean sheets and the the boys up top do some magic. We need to stop giving goals away!

The defenders are motivated to keep clean sheets, every time the opponents score they lose their clean sheet bonus!
Eagles comments and team selection in the OP are very sensible and I'd go with his team.
Nunez to come on at 70 minutes with Cavalho.
Hopefully Arthur Melo will be in the stands to see what the EPL is like so can start to calibrate his mindset, this is not Italy.
Let's beat these bitter blues and see FF get the boot. Scott Parker would be a far better manager for them.

VERY, VERY interesting line up:

Liverpool team news
Team to play Everton: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, van Dijk, Tsimikas, Elliott, Fabinho, Carvalho, Salah, Nunez, Diaz.

Subs: Adrian, Milner, Firmino, Jota, Robertson, Arthur, Matip, Bajcetic, Phillips

Attack, attack, attack might be the idea here.. :buttrock

19 and 20 year old attackers in midfield! That's a ballsy move! No Firmino to defend from the front either. Good luck Fabinho!

Bit lightweight in midfield but with that side we'll hopefully completely dominant the ball and pick them apart.

Attack, attack, attack!

Not the best game to take such risks but we'll see what happens.

Everton should be one up. Wtf was Gomez doing there?

Everton are the better team so far.

Almost a Torres-esque goal from Nunez, and Diaz hitting the post right after. Other than that though not a lot of other positives for this first half. We still look vulnerable to conceding cheap goals.

A goal has to be coming here. Putting them under a lot of pressure.

Milner is a liability.

Diving in all over the place and missing tackles to kick off every everton counter.
