Against the smaller sides at home i think we should be playing this side:

                           Reina
       Johnson    Carra     Agger     Aurelio

                   Gerrard    Meireles

Babel                     Cole                       Maxi
                          Torres

That imo is our best attacking side with perhaps Jovanovic (LW) and Kuyt (RW or FW) coming on for one of our 3 attacking midfielders depending on the opposition... That side has a bit of everything...

In terms of pace we only have Babel and Jovanovic who can provide that from deeper positions, i feel atleast one of them should be starting against the smaller sides to try and stretch their backline..

Cole needs games to try and get back to anywhere near his best.. I still think he's a very good footballer and could become an asset if we can get the best out of him...

The back 5 are pretty straight forward imo... Skrtel and Soto arent good enough and despite the decline in Carra's form last season ( i thought he was our best defender this season until he got injured) he's still miles ahead of the two....
Under better circumstances (back4 stability and improved confidence) i really think Johnson could become an asset to the side going forward. Lets be honest here, he's been disappointing defensively but im pretty sure if he played at Arsenal, Manutd, City, Chelsea or even Tottenham many here would be talking about how he's the sort of fullback we should be signing... Needs to improve, and so does everyone else, but I dont think taking him out of the side would improve our defense that much if at all.

The central midfield positions were the hard choice for me.. To be honest we only have 3 who are anywhere near good enough to be playing week in week out.. Lucas, Gerrard and Meireles... Out of the 3 Meireles is imo the best in the position... I've never been a big fan of Gerrard in the CM position, always seems too eager and does little to help our possession game.. Misses too many passes, doesnt track back when he should at times, and if he doesnt contribute to our attacking play in a big way just seems to cause more harm than good playing the position. That said, I'd still take him ahead of Lucas in such games. Lucas offers little in terms of support to wide players, doesnt do much in terms of bringing the ball out of the backline, and defensively he gives away too many cheap freekicks.. If he had a better eye for the forward pass I would pick him ahead of Gerrard for the position all day.. However he doesnt, and to be frank against the smaller sides i dont see any reason why him not playing would do our chances any harm...
However, Kenny has to have a word with Gerrard if he's planning on playing him there... Too many unneeded long passes that dont find their targets, getting caught out of position..etc etc

Harder away games and against the big sides I dont think we have the personnel to go out and dominate for long spells and push many bodies forward (especially with the backline we have)... Id go for this :

Possibly Maxi for Cole, as he has yet to really get a run of games to show what he can do.  He's injured again!!!!

I liked OMB's line-up in the first post, but with Maxi, Kuyt or Babel in the mix for the LM position if Cole doesn't do the business.

I would be really tempted to give Pacheco a run in his preferred position just off of Torres. We have been awful in the final third all season. Ngog has tried hard and done a decent job at times but he just isn't up to it and I don' think playing up front with another striker gets the best out of Torres. Pacheco might just be able to provide us with that little spark we need.

Swap Kuyt and Jonno and put Kelly in Jonno's place in the post above and that would be my choice

In terms of CBs I'm not sure who I'd pick, no pairing has showed itself to be particularly 'strong' lately and I thought Skrtel and Agger did a fine job today

My concern at the moment is being lightweight in the middle of the park. Meieles didn't impress today, I haven't watched a lot of him to be honest but I wanted him to be a lot more gritty in his efforts but his passing was off and he put wayward passes around all day.

For me though any 11 I put together seems to scream out our need for a left winger

Its quite funny how many people are suggesting Johnson on the wing.

I think after Kelly performed so well on Sunday it is definately worth a shot as in theory we should be very solid in that part of the feild with 2 RBs, with one being able to attack as well
