Problem with a bid war is if it's teams like Stoke vs Boro then the bidding won't exactly go all the way. £4.0000001m may well prove enough to win it

Boro, WBA, Stoke - they're the only teams who I can see being interested in Carson. Hull have four 'keepers and only just signed Tony Warner.

Every other team has a recognisable first team 'keeper.

Just heard on Talksport that Stoke have pulled out of their bid to sign Carson, somebody must have shown them the England V Croatia game :D

He obviously didn't fancy it that much and Stoke were getting fed up of him messing about. Personally I wouldn't want to join Stoke if I was him, the 3 teams that have come up look extremely weak and its a case of straight back down.

I'd take £4.5m off anyone who wants him now. Tony Pullis(stoke manager) did say on SSN that a few clubs were interested, lets hope to god a deal is done.

He will probably go to Villa as part of the Barry deal especially now the price has come down from the 10 Million we were alleged to have told Villa he would cost ???. I think they are after Brad Friedel though so who knows ?

Blackburn are apparently showing an interest in Carson.

I reckon that with Xabi now looking like he's staying that Rafa will turn his attentions to Keane and Bentley. With Pennant and now potentially Carson interesting Blackburn I can see a 2 player swap + cash deal on the horizon.

And I'd prefer that over Barry.

Carson and 7 million for bentely seems fair ? He's not that great of a player but still an improvement over pennant anyday , we could also do a straight swap deal with both pennant and carson going to blackburn and bentely moving to us , can't see the latter happening though

Stoke have ended their interest in Liverpool's goalkeeper Scott Carson, having had a club-record £4m offer accepted for the England international.

However, a statement from Stoke today read: "We can announce that we are no longer pursuing Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson. The club will continue to look to improve the squad and remain hopeful of closing in on several new signings ahead of the Barclays Premier League campaign."

The 22-year-old spent the whole of last season on loan at Aston Villa, who had previously expressed a desire to make the move permanent but were put off by a reported £10m price tag. Carson - who has two senior England caps - joined Liverpool from Leeds in January 2005 but has made just nine first-team appearances for the Reds, also spending time on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton.

No, if Villa want him they should pay over-inflated prices. Everyone else can have him for £4m, they have to pay at least £7m
