That's ***** mate, let's ban sliding tackles altogether then.

If that happens on a Liverpool player we are screaming for a red card

Not for me mate, he had every right to go for the ball, he got the entire ball cleanly, the follow through was unfortunate.

However, considering todays softy rules, yellow was probably justified, but he got too much of the ball and the follow through was clearly accidental and VVD didn't mean to hurt the player, so not a red even with todays standards.

Agreed the tackle was clean and the follow thru was unfortunate, but still...we know many refs will be pulling out the red card for this sort of tackle so in a way VVD was lucky

Trouble is they show the final shot and it looks horrific but watching the whole tackle as it played out he absolutely got the ball and as you said followed through. Unlike Ramos/Terry VVD does not need to play dirty as he has more tools in his box.

Lucky not to get a red card !! If people honestly believe that then the game should become  a non contact support like fkg netball  :help  A brilliant tackle becomes an offence because of natural momentum is a massive frustration to fans, managers and players. Perhaps VIrgil should have thought blimey this ground is a bit slippy I’ll politely ask the player for the ball. There was absolutely no malice whatsoever in what Virgil did. I thought he was unlucky to get a yellow and yes I’ve watched it a few times.

Unfortunately with the rules now - LAw 12 - acting with disregard for the consequences - etc etc  VVD has to ensure when committing to the tackle he doesnt also endanger the opponent. If the foot had stayed on the ground then its fine but because afetr getting the ball he has then gone into the ankle with force and caught him high he is a very lucky bot , if that had happened to Salah then we would all be up in arms . Its just the way it is now - there was no malice or intent etc but its still a dangerous tackle and with VAR coming in they would have made that a red

That was a fantastic challenge by Virgil and he was unfortunate to pick up a card for it. It wasn't dirty at all and was perfectly timed. If anything maybe the other lad was a fraction late.

I totally agree. Nowadays ANY tackle that goes with studs of the ground could be a red. Does not matter one bit if you hit the ball if you make a challenge that could break a player's leg. And yes, that tackle could have broken
the Napoli player's leg.

Most people seem to think it was either a red or not even a foul. I actually think the ref got it right. It's not reckless and there isn't excessive force.

Virgil is world class his confidence his movement exceptional. Our defense is very strong with him there and Allison in keeps.

On so many occasions Allison had the ball and gave it to VVD vice versa on previous seasons we would be nervous like hell and worrying please don't feck it up.

Having a strong spine changes the complex of a team.

Happy Virgil scored he was due a goal after quite a few close calls.

Watch the game videos, our defence and midfield are 5-10 yards higher up the pitch than last season due to the confidence they have in VVD and Alisson. Changes the whole pattern of play.

consistently puts 8-9/10 performances and rarely has an off day

played with a cold last night and still dominated everything.

Wasn't even 100% ready yesterday and was still MOTM. Don't remember the last time this guy made a mistake or even lost any kind of duel. And I love the way he makes it all look so easy for him, he always looks like he's not even trying (I mean that in a good way)!

For me, he's among the top 5 players in the world at the moment, not just CBs (he's the best CB, no doubt). If we win the title it'll be because of him.

I backed him at 40/1 to be PFA player of the season in the summer and at this point am anticipating a very handsome return for my £5.00 stake.

Don't think I can even jinx this guy absolutely incredible so far.
