This fella has been an absolute rock since he came to the club, we went from a 50 goal a season joke of a defence to one of the best defences in Europe practically overnight and that was with Karius in goal and no Fabinho in front of him.
Right from the moment he stepped through the door he has been absolutely magnificent, no settling in period, no sign of the huge fee affecting him....without him there would have been no number 6.
Talk about an instant legend, he's up there with the best defenders I've ever seen at this club and as you all know I'm one of those who thinks everything was better in the past. He is that good.

He doesn't want a new contract because he loves us, it's because he wants more money.. welcome to the new City/Chelsea/United world of being screwed.

Virgil's agent wouldn't be worthy of his job title if he didn't try to get a rise for the big man especially given what has happened over the last 18 months, I'm just disappointed that the club didn't step in first, we are talking about a player who's locked in a 2 way battle with Lionel Messi for the ballon d'hor yet reportedly on significantly less than the likes of Danny Sturridge and James Milner.
IMO being screwed is what is happening to the likes of Arsenal and United with Ozil and Sanchez who are earning phenomenal money but not putting in phenomenal performances.
The club have done a lot of things right over the past few years, not heading this one off at the pass however isn't one of them.

Does anyone know how much he's currently on? The big thing with the De Ligt deal was if we bought him he would be on more money than VVD.

VVD should be on at least 160k a week..

Nobody knows.

But it was rumoured that he was on a basic wage of about £150k per week when he signed. It’s should also be noted that our contracts are reported to be heavily incentivised as when FSG came in they were keen to move to a model where players and staff are rewarded for success and not just for simply being here. So you’d think in a season we finished 2nd and won the Champions League he’s ended up with a lot more than £150k a week.

Van djik has earned a pay rise and I’m sure he’ll get one in the next 6 months. I don’t think we’ll make any serious attempt to bring De Ligt here considering the agent he has and his attempt to secure such a big contract that would eclipse our biggest earners. I think he’ll end up at Barcelona in any case.

It's not definitive but having looked at several sources (newspapers, sports sites etc) the consensus is he's on £150k per week.

Virgil Van Dijk, who commanded a record-breaking £70m fee for a defender when Liverpool signed him from Southampton in January, earned a weekly basic wage of £124,658 with a £6m bonus on signing. He was given a £5m loyalty bonus and another £4m loyalty bonus on playing 150 games. He is also incentivised per clean sheet the team keeps, starting at 18, as well as £20,000 for every goal he scores.

VVD is not going to be a “money chaser” and he treats the club with a bit of respect - he will be getting a new contract because the club are wanting to reward him as opposed to him looking for more money

Reward him?! They want to lock him in and throw away the key mate!   I wonder if there's a buy out clause in his contract or..... ?
