The wright choice. - Who's going to get the job?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

After Ian Wright came out with that comment about Shaun picking the wrong team when he joined Chavski, can we start to attract that sort of player to the mighty reds? Would we want a player who has shown that the money is more important than career development? Knowing Benitez he'll buy two right sided players this summer, a bigish name player & a less know one. In my opinion Rafa needs to get more home grown players in the squad next season rather than buying continental options. I know money has a lot to do with it but there will be players in the last year of their contracts so prices will be vastly reduced. To be honest I'm starting to zone out the papers bull & want to wait & see but as usual like xmas we all want to see the presents now.

i think if sean is for sale them Rafa would be loking to buy him but its all going to be how much they ask for him.
its always going to be hard for us to buy well known home players as they cost so much now, but with the new rules coming in in 2007 about home grown players there is going to be a rush to get them.

we should be fine about that, we have carra, stevie g, finnan, robbie, carson, kewell (who was trained by leeds because they were his first club), crouchy, warnock and anderson if he steps up to the first team next season.

You must have a certain amount of players that are trained by Liverpool and then a certain amount of players trained by other english clubs.

As far as I've read, Ian Wright has made comments stating that unless the situation changes for Shaun next season - they will be forced to look at other clubs and options. And that it was disappointing that he hasn't played more, but they both knew that it wouldn't be easy for him to break into the first team regularly and that perhas Shaun would have to bide his time on the bench. I've never read anything that flat out said he made the wrong choice. Ian Wright even said something along the lines of "Shaun joined the champions, just like I did with Arsenal. No one can blame him." Anyway, it's going to be atleast another season before the player starts to look seriously at his future. I don't see the point in discussing it now, given these reasons and also because Chelsea selling him at a reasonable price to us is a tad bit unrealistic.

Agreed...he's not going to leave after only one year, no matter how little playing time he's had.  At most, he might be loaned out with a view to a permanent move the following year (a la Wayne Bridge).

BUT, there's no chance that Chelsea will sell him to us (or loan him to us).  Think about how ridiculous they'd look if we turned him into a world-beater and he helped us wrestle the title away from them?  They will not risk selling him to a top club for that reason.  In addition, given that they don't need the money and given their (or at least their manager's) attitude toward us, they would try and make us pay well over the odds for the lad.

There are better options for RW out there--both in England and abroad.
