Cruciate ligament injuries don't always recur, but they do make the knee more prone to future injury - Pires for example.

I would suggest that was just as much to do with him getting older as it was the injury ?

And i will swop you Pires for Simon Jones, Lawrence Dallaglio and Herschelle Gibbs

For the sake of the thread i will agree to disagree and time will tell

I'm not disagreeing, it's a very simple fact that the RISK of injury is higher after such an horrendous injury. There's nothing to argue over, he could play just as well as he once did with us, but the risk of injury is higher, that's all.

Fact ? really and on what do you base that, lets look at the FACTS since the injury shall we, goals per games for Newcastle so far ? Does that suggest that he will never be the same, does it look like he has lost the knack of scoring goals ? NO

The only FACT is that its your opinion that he wont be the same !

:no

The facts are mate that 90% of players that suffer his type of injury are shadows of their former selves when they return!

The facts are that a very high percentage of people that suffer this injury suffer re occurances the rest of their playing days and are often playing with pain at the very least and if they are lucky!

The facts are that Michael Owen is a vey risky prospect for any team to take a chance on and that is why no one is chasing him...Newcastle are happy because they are clutching at straws as Obefemi Martins has been good but basically a flop and not the replacement for Shearer they hoped for in Owens absence.Michael Owen is their only hope.

The facts are that Michael Owen has had his days in the red shirt and those days are over.

He could have stayed on and been up there with Rush in the greats, sadly you can blame a certain Frenchman on the fact that he is not!

The FACTS are you have offered no proof of these so called 90% OR the 'High percentage" who suffer  a re-occurance  or who play in pain.

I on the other hand have gave the names of 4 who ( so far ) and one of them most definitely have NOT suffered any sort of re-occurance, they are FACTS !  :nod

Maybe Destro automatically thinks I'm anti-Owen, but I'm not. I'm pointing out that his injury is a factor that you have to consider strongly ( much much more so than a minor injury) IF we were to re-sign him.

If we had no other feasible options I would have Owen back, but he wouldn't be my first choice, he's just a very good player for £9m.

..............

BACK TO TORRES

I think Torres is also injury prone as he broke a fingernail on holiday, but with such a serious injry I think the risk is too big so I definitely side with Sabre on this one, he's too big a risk.

torres is no risk, hes a big name, its  a big 'f*ck you' to the rest of the premiership stamping ourselves on the preiership. its amassive buy and a massive player who at the top of his game is one of the best in the business.

we could spend little bits here or there, be a bit more safe. i say f*ck it, buy a big name for once, and come out august fighting

Who exactly will be turning up tomorrow?

Is the full squad back or just a make shift one?

As the 'what you look like thread' will attest, I've already got one!  Sort yourselves out some whiskers, lads, and away we go! :buttrock

(Just out of curiosity, could Torres manage to grow a proper goatee, though? ??? :D )
