Stevie gerrard - What is his role?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

i don't want to talk about the future of our beloved captain. to be quite honest i'm sick of all the inevitable speculation which arises everytime we lose a game at the moment. i'm concerned about the here and now so i have a simple question for all of you.

do you think rafael benitez knows what role he wants stevie to play in our side? i have to say that i don't think he does. he is too talented to play as a holding player but i also think that this new advanced roaming role is not going to be his role in the long term.

discuss.

i personally dont think we have a strong enough team for rafa to play people in the perfect roles he has in his mind for them (garcia, cisse and baros unfit) but a more or less free roaming role seems most likely as he knows that stevie has the attitude not to be lazy about it (understatement of the year)

Personaly, I think he looks made for this advanced role slightly behind the Striker, running down central channels.
However, I also believe that it will only work to full effect, if he has a solid platform to work from, provided by the like of Alonso and Hamman.

I think the perfect role for Stevie G is...................... Clarke Kent!!!!!
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Alonso and Hamman in Midfield with Stevie G supporting the front

With wingers etc and maybe some buys that way we might not miss him too much come the summer

i dont think we will.  you cant have a player who is bigger than the club, its just not on. rooney at everton is a perfect example

i reckon we will be a better team for it if he goes.

Listen, personally i believe Stevie is gone so we might as well all get used to it. We are not gonna win the league or the Champions League this year so he's gonna use that as an excuse to jump ship, and off with him, he's causing more trouble than is nessecary at the moment with his comments. If Rafa can get 3-4 quality players for the price we receive for him then I'll be happy. Remember Xabi Alonso cos us £10-11million so there is no way Stevie is better than 3-4 Xabi's if thats what comes of it, he's barely better than the one we have at the moment. I'd prefer him to stay of course but I won't be gutted i he goes for a good price either.

If we can get the right players to replace him and strengthen the other critical areas from the proceeds of his sale, I am sure we will improve the team. The key thing is to get loads of money for his transfer if he really wants to go.

I am not convinced that he will especially shine at Chelsea as they already have their own "galacticos" in John Terry and Frank Lampard, plus the other players like Robben, Calvarho and Ferreira. He may even become an enigma there like he has been for England.
