Souness

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I read this forum a lot and there seems to be a consensus that GH is ok because he returned to the club after heart surgery,i admit it took a lot for him to come back but we need to look at the big picture and admit that he just isnt doing what is required to make us great again.

What no one seems to remember on this forum is Souness also had a major heart operation and still sat on the bench at the Fa Cup final weeks later, he was still hounded out of the club as he made an error of judgement in giving an interview to the s*n. Im 37 and supporters of my age should remeber what a player Souness was for this club, he did more for us that GH ever has or will.

OK he sacked big nose, but knowing the type of guy Thompson is who can really blame Souness.

This is not a bring Souness back campaign, the point im trying to raise is that we cant forgive GH because he was ill, we didnt forgive Souness, we still got him out. Gh is a nice guy and i dont wish him any harm but Im starting to get embarrassed looking at the team sheet and listening to his excuses afterwards.

Please GH, if you love Liverpool then walk away from us. bigger and better men than you have done it.

Only just noticed this post, and I agree about the similarities between the two.

I was at the Blackburn game the other day and Souness had a bad reception, which I feel is a great shame.

He was one of the all yime great players here, and I'm sure we would all give left arms to have a player like him alongside Stevie G.

Can i just say it is nice to see constructive critisism. Its good to see that when 'pool fans complain or discuss they have valid reasons for everything they say. Juts nice to see

The essential difference between Souness and Houllier is their understanding and sensitivity to Hillsborough. Ok Peewee, Souness made an error of judgement but what an ERROR !!!!!!! I am also 37 and survived Hillsborough, its why i put by the Grace Of God in my signature (And by the way thats the first time i've ever explained my signature just in case you feel I'm attempting an emotional backing) I also was lucky enough to see Souness as a player and what a player he was but as Big Ron has found out in the last couple of days , its not so much how many mistakes you make but the nature of the mistake.

I dont believe GH gets any dispensation to remain LFC manager because of his Heart Op, I just feel fans look on him with a little more respect because of his dignity and sensitivity to Hillsborough. Also ask your average Blackburn PLAYER or FAN what they really think of Siouness and i think you'll find he isn't in the same league as GH as a MAN !! Better Player yes, worse manager and worse as man YES

I was at Blackburn in October when 2 LFC players were seriously injured as a result of his players actions and the way his players came out all fired up to inflict damage on anything that ran past them is testamanet to the il feeling Souness STILL has against this club.

His Ego's bigger than his achievements as a manger and for the record its the FIRST time I've heard Liverpool Fans shout in unison obscenaties at an Ex LFC player. You sound like you attend games so you wil know we are more than fair to the vast majority of Ex Liverpool players. Souness has more chips on his shoulders regarding LFC than McCain's !!!!!!!

Thanks Dalglish, some good points. I have not attended a game since Sept 2002 as i moved out to Malaysia so I am away from the ground and the talk that goes on there. I rely on forums to give me a true feeling.

Thanks dawson and thanks leonn, of course i would love to see Souness as a player again in our midfield.

Dalglish I agree that as a man GH has integrity and comes accross as a nice guy but his stubborness to acept that hes making mistakes really annoys me.

Hi Peewee, I share your frustrations my friend on GH , he has been stubborn and to be perfectly honest lacked ideas and the ability to change the tactics so many times this season. My reply to your initial post was to try and shed light on the Souness/Houllier question and why one is seen ina  more favourable light than the other. I hope it helped :) For the record I dont think GH's health problems are any more likely to keep him in a job at Liverpool as Souness' did .

I agree with Dalglish in that Liverpool fans are (rightfully) kind to former players but unfortunately Souness is the exception.
