anyway to toffehaters reply on my comment on babel... yes I think babel is not a striker... because he had gilt-edged chances which HAD to be put away there's no doubt about it...peter crouch would've put them away... I remember him having MORE than 2 chances in the whole game... one was early in the first half... kuyt gave him a good pass... he did very very well with his first touch turning the marseille defender and all of a sudden he was one on one with the keeper and the keeper was still behind... with the whole goal to choose from, what did he do? It seemed to me like he closed his eyes and whacked the ball so hard it went to the stands... another one is where later on in the second half reira attacked down the left and sent in a dangerous cross... benayoun and marseille defender went for the the ball and it spilt out to babel... alone close range he blasted the ball again... hitting the keeper... another one was also a goalmouthscramble... he could've slipped the ball under the keeper towards the near post but again he blasted the ball... IF you consider this as a striker's finishing, then i must say I don't like strikers who just try to blast the ball without an intent, I like strikers who finish the ball into the net intelligently like Torres or Owen. Not to say the rest of his performance was bad... but he still blows hot and cold for me... and I don't like the look of his finishing skills...

Well first of I did watch the game so i know the chances in fact I watched game 3 times now.

2nd of all the 2nd chance you speak of with benny he couldn't score that keep made up to much ground and got hand in way if he had hit the ball softer his foot would have taken longer to reacht he ball and keep would have had time to grab the ball.

As for you not liking strikers who hit ball with power , since when has it been down to a pans personal pref , how the hell out players hit the ball.

I mean wtf You wanna tell the player how to run next or you don't like how they move foot to the right when they do step overs maybe you like them to move the ball to the left before.

Or maybe you don't like they cross the ball to flat you want more air , basicly they play how they play end of story.

As long as he carrys on to improve I could care how he plays its his style , I personal think his style will be very effective once he nails it.

So the chance from Rieira's cross he couldn't have done better? He couldn't have opened his body up? He couldn't have slotted it? He couldn't have took another touch or sold the keeper a dummy? He couldn't have adjusted his body position?

He done the only thing possible did he?

Absoloute rubbish.

He missed a sitter and thats the end of it.

Classic clueless comment I watched game 3 times now nothing else he could of done.

Not even robbie fowler would have scored that in fact he wouldn't have even got on end of it so please stfu.

you've just embarrassed yourself with this post... the clueless one I'm afraid is you...

Good footy awareness comes with experience for most players and I just don't think that Babel is getting enough of that.

I think he has the potential to be a very good player, but again, he has his limitations (at least at present).

Like Kuyt, he's been forced out of position (more or less) and has had to adopt. I think he's more suited to a forward mid position, rather than the left wing. But, to be honest, I'm not really sure from Babel's play where he is 100% suited to at the moment.

He does feck up a lot and like Kuyt, can be an extremely frustrating player to watch...and he also seems "flimsy" as a player. He doesn't seem to possess any strength.

When he shines though, you can see a possible future in him. I think he had a decent game on Tuesday with some nice moves.

But, overall, I have to remain unconvinced yet. Is it Babel's fault, or is it the way Rafa has used him? That's another question.

Regular games will help him grow, but it's up to Babel to prove he's worthy of regular starts.

i think the problem is with babel is people expect him to turn into this amazing world beater

it aint gonna happen, hes not in that league

he could however be a very usefull player for us if played right

Not convinced he's a left winger but I'd like to see him on the right. Having said that it would appear he can play in a number of positions and that is probably what attracts Rafa to play him. I think his best position is as a central striker but he defo offers something out wide.

He is VERY direct, has real pace, a decent touch and he can finish.

He has all the attributes to become a top top player. He is only young and is still, in my opinion, one for the future. Having said that we are starting to get some return on investment already and that can only be a good thing.

Isn't that part of the problem though? We've seen him for a season now, nail down his best position?

I don't think we know what it is to be honest. We can argue and debate, but where you've got a Torres who you can say "centre-forward" and pin it down without argument, with Babel, I still don't think we can get even close.

I think Babel is far from the finished product, he could indeed be a great player but at the moment i think he needs time to develop. Benitez will give him that time, a few flops have been bought for the wing like Kewell and Gonzalez but Babel is a player who has pace, a ferocious shot and fantastic skills. He still needs to adapt but he will come good........as will Keane :;):

Hes young, very talented and can go a long way. I think he does need to be given a position and stick with it, but many of the best players can play different positions. If he can play wide left and right i don't see a problem if he could be used as a back up striker, brilliant. The guy is playing well for us, i don't see why people get on his back so much.... some people on here think they have the knowledge of the worlds best managers.... thats without seeing these players train day in day out.

fowler doesnt need to have pace to be smart enough to be in goal scoring positions.

We'll never know of course but my suspicion is that Robbie (Fowler...as opposed to "Robert David Keane" :D ) would have anticipated that ball falling to him in the box much quicker than Babel did and would have done more with it.  I'm not going to crucify the lad for it or anything--we still won and all--but it was just another question mark about his awareness for me.
