no thats the whole point... suppose we cant sign another right winger..which is very likely if you ask me...
the budget we are getting is nowhere near what some around here are making it out to be.. we dont have enough money to go and buy 3 or 4 world class players without the need of selling some of our top talent...simple as...

priorities if u ask me : 1)striker 2)left winger 3)center back 4)right wing !

given that assumptions... who would you play in the right flank next season ???

The right winger role is currently covered by Pennat. He's our only right winger.

The right midfielder role is covered by Gerrard, and sometimes Luis Garcia.

So in the right winger question there's no doubts Pennant is the best option.

For the right midfielder role, I'd buy a player so that Gerrard has not to play there any more.

So I wouldn't compare player of two different roles. Sometimes we'll play with a RM, sometimes with a RW, but that will be up to the formation and system Rafa picks. When he wants a winger, pennant. When he wants a RM, Gerrard, or Luis Garcia.

I'd happily buy a RM, not a winger.

I'm not sure that we need a center back more than a right winger. I think Pennant will get better as he grows more accustomed to Rafa's system. Kewell will be fine out on the left (as long as he stays injury free) and I think Riise can back him up there with Arbeloa able to play on the left side of defence.
You'll never walk alone.

Going along with the possibility that we may not sign a RW I'd go with Pennant as his displays in the last couple of months of the season have earned him that opportunity. The option of Gerrard or Garcia as backup would be ok if not ideal. Even if Alves was signed I could still see Pennant having a major role to play with Alves over lapping (assuming he dislodges Finnan). Pennants play has possibly been let down in the latter stages of the season by the lack of someone with a real killer instinct being in the box to get on the end of his balls.  :wwww

How about Nick Griffin? he'll never come off the right wing and into the centre.

Why is signing a right winger so unlikely  ???

I happen to think signing a quality right winger will be one of our priorities along with a left winger and a striker.

How would you know our budget is "nowhere near what some around here are making out to be"?

???

How do you know we don't have the capability to go out and buy "3 or 4 world class players".

I think if we land Simao, with another left winger (hopfully Alves) and a striker, then we will have enough. Simoa can play on both wings, so that's something Benitez will find extremely usefull tactically if we get him. As it stands, Pennant.

Simao could be a real possibility as rumours are circulating that he could be involved in a swap deal with Cisse going the other way should Marseille not agree a fee. I also seem to remembed the Parry has commented recently that Simao remains a target of the club's. Whether or not he'd be a priority target I suppose depends on the cash available.

I think that looking at one or two posts on the forum (i.e. 'aCe' - not havin a go BTW :D)I get the impression that some of Rafa's comments regarding the transfers are leading to thoughts that maybe we aren't going to have the riches this summer that many thought.
