RICKIE LAMBERT - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Lambert simply isn't of the right quality. If we needed a big guy, we should have kept Carroll. It feels like the accepted quality of the squad has lowered dramatically in recent times bar the odd diamond here and there. With BR bigging up poor players and performances all the time I'm not too surprised. I'm not sure such methods are motivating the squad very well.

Carroll was the main striker and we paid big bucks for him, Rickie's a stand in, end of career, cheap compromise to give us 1-2 years service whilst (in theory) we build other positions and young lads come through so in fairness you can't really compare Carroll with Rickie. The Ukraine porn star is probably the best comparison, and he was sh!te too.

I'm not comparing them as players, but rather their roles. BR dumped Andy straight away because he thought him too static and unbefitting of the 'vision' and philosophy. The vision and philosophy is a young team playing quick, decisive, flowing football. So yeah, show Carroll the door and bring in Ricky Lambert a year later. Makes sense.... not!

To be fair to Rafa he brought Voronin in at a time when we had to sell players to service our debt. A lot of the players we signed around that time (Ngog, big Soto, Maxi, Shelvey, Degen etc) were all either signed on a free or for a nominal fee. Benitez was desperately trying to keep our heads above water by trying to find absolute bargains but it was an impossible job, especially as he was at loggerheads with the owners too.
Eventually the lack of funds, the owners, the press, ferguson and his lackeys and even some of our fans wore him down and the great man fell on his sword, he was just fighting on too many fronts, his last act as Liverpool manager was to make one final magnificent gesture of £96,000 to the hillsborough campaign which he requested to be kept anonymous.

As a plan B striker, Lambert is perfect to bring in for the final 15 mins, as he brings a new dimension to our attack.

But as a regular plan A starter, he adds nothing to the first 11. He's a  mid-table striker at best and isn't fit to lace the boots of Suarez.

His lasting legacy should be he exposed the owners that eventually led to their downfall. I will always feel that Rafa got a bum deal

Yeah too right mate.
His record in the CL was staggering really considering that when he first arrived we hadn't been a force in european football for a long time, 2 finals and another semi in 4 years is something we could only dream about now.
Just think of some of the clubs we beat in the CL under him (Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, Arsenal, Chelsea, PSV, Marseilles, Bayern Leverkusen etc etc) and we are sitting here flapping about Basel tomorrow.
Unbelievable really.

As Gerrard said in his post match interview Lambert has ran himself into the ground, he's had too many games in too short a space of time for someone of Ricky's build and age.

Makes you wonder why it escaped Rodgers keen eye for detail then ?

I think because the game was so pivotal Brendan asked Ricky if he could to go to the well one more time and he did try but there was just nothing there, he was running on empty.

I do feel srry for Lambert as he obviously wants to do good however he is not up to the quality required

Brendan needs to find his balls and if he is given the man utd game which he does not deserve he needs to show everyone that he isnt the stubborn tit that we all know that he is

Problem is, he is way too stubborn. Borini should have featured somewhere in the recent games, and to lump this workload on Lambert is a terrible decision. I don't want to harp on Lambert, he is what he is, and that is our third string striker, but he has his limitations and Rodgers has too much pride to try something else.

You know as well as me mate ,that our academy is full of players that would have been blooded by any other manager rather than go with one tired striker up front
Ive just watched the U19's on the Liverpool channel take Basel apart ,Sinclair was superb and Canos was practically unplayable he has that much ingenuity in his
locker. I know people will say they're not ready as yet ,but for me personally, yesterday we needed to inject something different into our game, and including two
players who could possibly change the game on the bench instead of being bereft of a front man when Lambert was withdrawn would have given Basel something
to think about.

I mean taking just one striker into a game of that magnitude was ineptitude of the highest order mate ,seriously how many managers would have done that ?
