Player ratings vs. wigan - As above

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby el_stinger » Sat Dec 03, 2005 4:06 pm

Great game lads, well done Crouchy, supurb effort. Lets step up a gear, and really get Chelski worried....

Player Ratings:

Reina = 8
Made some great stops when needed. Wasn't tested until the mid part of the second half. Was enourmous when called upon. Commanded the area like a Gladiator. Other than that, had not much to do.

Warnock = 8
Bit rusty very early on, but provided some very good cover on the left. Had a point to prove, and kept his man well held. Slackend off in the later parts of the game, but scrapped a clean sheet

Hyypia = 8
Another clean sheet, and rock solid with Carra. Covered his keeper well leaving Reina with not much to do but stop 3 main saves towards the end of the match.

Carra = 8
Solid. This man is Liverpool, heart, and soul. Can't ask this man to do more than he is already giving.

Finnan = 8
Overlapped, sturdy and resolut throughout. With his compatriots, they defended hard, cleverly and scrappy when needed.

Kewell = 7
Had some great opportunities to put himself on the score sheet, two in particular come to mind 8 yards out. Still rusty from injury, we will see some great things from Harry in the coming weeks before we sell him.

Alonso = 9
Great passing, solid defending in front of the CB's. Controlled the game well, as always. Top signing.

Gerrard = 9 (Man of the Match)
He hadn't played that great leading up to this game, but he has taken some well needed confidence from this match. Back in his preferred role, Gerrard lead the attack, and deserved a goal or two.

Garcia = 8
Linked well with Crouch, made some great passes. Still could have put the game beyond Wigan early on, but one too many touches saw him spurn chances. He is still proving to be difficult to contain for opposing sides. He was all class today. Deserved his goal with a well directed shoulder from a Gerrard corner and Mori shot.

Morientes = 7
Quiet. Real quiet first half. Had few chances. Last part of the second half he really dug deep, could have scored but had 2 shots well saved. Headers off posts, shots just wide, feel sorry for him for not scoring, he deserved it just as much as Gerrard.

Crouch = 9
Up there with the best of him. Held and kept the ball like he had glue on his boots, laying the ball off to oncoming traffic. His first goal was a fluke, with the keeper fumbling into his own net. Second goal was all class, chipping the keeper and slotting it in the top right corner.

Subs:

Riise = 7
Came on for Kewell, setting up some great chances towards the end and even cracking a few balls towards goal. Had to come on and defend as priority.

Hamman = 7
Did what he had to do, coming on for Alonso. Marked traffic coming through the middle, and orchestrated a few counter attacks.

Cisse = 6
Came on for 14 minutes for Crouch. Little too obvious that he was doing the team thing, and had some great opportunities to score and set up a goal or two. Looks like he is on his way out of Anfield, he won't get away with antagonising Benitez. Looked pi$$ed when he came on the pitch. Made few passing mistakes, but thats understandable seeing where his mind is, at the moment.

Benitez= 9
Didn't have much to do adjustment wise, the players were switched on, even with the blistering pace of Camara causing a bit of promise for the visitors. With the team playing as well as we are, keeping clean sheets and defending up the pitch, Benitez has us playing a brand of football that is entertaining and succesfull. A wonderful place to be.

Referee: 7

Did well, bit trigger happy with the yellow against Hyppia at the end, but overall he controlled the match and let it flow. Played advantage a couple of times where clearly it wasnt the best option, but apart from that, he was good.

Happy days!!

THank you for that

Hamman = 7
Did what he had to do, coming on for Alonso. Marked traffic coming through the middle, and orchestrated a few counter attacks.

That's what I like of Hamman, he does what he has to!, he recovers a lot of balls, and most importantly, his place and timing are the right one in order not to leave the team with one man less.

About Moro's performance, I apply the same logic that I did with Crouch, when a striker is doing a good job, it's a matter of time the goas arrive.

TA you for your report, cheers

I still don't think he's going anywhere.  Rafa will give him this season to see what he's like fully fit and, if today is anything to go by, he's starting to look like the player we bought.

nice report el_stinger, but i would give morientes an 8/10, he linked up well with crouch and deserved a goal or two. His areal ability was a threat to wigan and assisted well for Garcia's goal

Thats worrying if they all had superb games to top class games and we only won 3-0.

Very worrying infact.

Overating players performances me thinks.

I think thats harsh on Cisse, i think he looked bright, he set up morientes and allways looks like he is going to score. Hope he doesnt leave, but if he does im sure Rafa knows what he is doing.

why would we sell him if he was plying great
Steve Gerrard Gerrard,
He'll pass the ball 40 yards,
He's quick and he's f*cking hard,
Steve Gerrard Gerrard.

Kewell didn't play great.....but he didn't play bad either.  Had a couple of good link ups with Morientes and Gerrard.  Although i'd like to see him run at players a bit more.

My feeling is that Benitez is giving Kewell the best opportunity to get fit, get game time, and start reproducing what we all know he can. It will increase the price on his head, and give time for Gonzo to settle in and start getting matches under his belt. Kewell will be gone by the end of the season at the latest.

3-0 and completely dominated. Not overrating. You watch the game? They didn't finish the game off sooner, but still, they played really, really well both as a unit and individually. The defence was solid until Alonso came off, then Wigan became desperate, so we resorted to scrapping and flooding the area. We created chance after chance, and contained Wigan until the final whistle. They did great, there's no overrating any performance. Watch the match, see for yourself.

to know how good we performed, just look at Jewell face..he looks stunned and clueless when we score the third goal. how dominate we are? we just don know how will wigan score. Although they pressured us in the second half, there still no clear chance for them. it seem that too many man in red.

Welcome chelski......give them a lesson

Morientes has played his best game of the season but unfortunately he missed the 4-0
