PEPE REINA - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Dundalk » Sun Jan 02, 2011 1:07 pm

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has reiterated he has no intention of leaving the club. The Spain international has been mentioned as a £20million target for Manchester United and has also been linked with Arsenal and Real Madrid. The 28-year-old signed a new six-year contract only last season and has seen the Reds struggle under new boss Roy Hodgson this term. But the former Villarreal goalkeeper claims he is committed to seeing out his contract, which would take him to 11 years at Anfield. "I'm tired of rumours linking me with many teams in England and abroad," he told the Daily Star. "I am a man of my word and commitment. I will honour my contract with Liverpool. Stories of these offers are not true. I have not spoken to anyone -ever -and I am 100 per cent a Liverpool player." The 2006 FA Cup is the only major honour Reina has won with Liverpool and he is determined to help bring back the glory days to Anfield after missing out on this season's Champions League. "Since I've been here I've found an incredible passion, more than I thought from Spain," he added. "Liverpool as a club is sacred, it is something special. Being Liverpool's goalkeeper is a privilege. For now, I just want to win trophies for them."

Absolute Legend, i ithink if he stays for the long run he'll become the best keeper Liverpool have ever had. Hopefully now the Torres and Reina will be off storys stop. Doubt it though

Good luck with that. I don't think Torres' commitment is as strong as Reina's.

Nice to hear Pepe say stuff like "honour his contract". Rare thing in football these days.

Dear Pepe,

When you meant you honor your contract, please mean you do. I don't think any of us could take it any longer to get hurt like this with Torres. We will understand your frustrations, as all of us fans are feeling it too. If you feel you need to leave, please don't do it the same way as your best mate, make it clear from the start and we won't hold any grudge on you, but we will wish you the best. We respect you as a player and a person, so lets keep it that way.

I think if Pepe went it would be like Torres in the sense that we would get far more money then hes worth (dispite how good he us) and would be able to replace him not just with another great keeper but a winger or defender aswell (whatever problem area teh club would want to address). Like with Torres weve not got in a better striker in then him (although Suarez could become better through time i my opinion) but we have brought in afew players that combined can help us become a better team. We need to stop fretting over players leaving, they come and go, no one is bigger then the club. The biggest clubs always fair better then the player(s) that leave them, which has been the case for us and clubs dont get much bigger then us.

I was thinking this as well.  The Spanish contingent has been widdled down sharpish in recent transfer windows.  Hopefully Pepe sticks around for quite some time, though.  Besides being a world class keeper, he seems a genuine great guy who's great for moral.  As gutted as I was to see Torres turn Judas, I couldn't stand it if Reina bailed too.  That and I spent a wedge getting his name and number on a kit recently and don't want to look a t!t wearing it.  :upside:

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

I don't think Reina would stab us in the back like Torres but I can see him maybe leaving in the summer. It would be a shame as he is a very very good keeper but he's not irreplaceable, nobody is.

I think Reina is more loyal than most of our foreign players, but i think he might get a bit unsettled without any spanish lads around anymore.
