Not Brazilian Football but football in the brazil league - bit of a difference there isnt there .

Not really when you consider where most of the top brazilians play - if all the top ones where in the brazilian league and lucas won player of the year then that is something to get hopes/expectations up about but the fact is they dont so overall winning it is not something to get any major hopes up and wasnt something i got my hopes up about .Obviously since then he has been drafted into the main squad alongside these top brazilians (and not looking out of place from what i have seen) then obviously the lad is doing ok as well as playing well in the olympics . so maybe people shouldnt of had too high expectations just because he won brazilian player of the year in their own league.

The three players I mentioned were all playing in Brazil when they won the same honour.

So the point does stand as I said, and therefore it is something to raise expectations as you've said in this post above.

So because other players won the award when they were prob the stand out player of the league you expect all winners to be of the same quality ? If players like romario kaka etc where still playing in brazil when he won the award then yeah can understand the expectations but they werent so lucas was only up against the players that where there at the time - and all the top brazilians are playing in europe hence why their national squad hardly has anyone from their own league - so winning the Brazilian League Player of the Year is prob not something to have high expectations off as you have to consider the competition he faced .

well seems nice and simple to me - have to judge each award on who they are up against .

I was talking about expectations, Brazilian footballer of the year, I think most people would expect something better than Lucas.

Only my opinion, you think differently obviously - no need for either of us to labour it any further.

Then its your expectations at fault then not the player and maybe should lower them just cause a guy wins Brazilian LEAGUE Footballer of the year (hence why in the past its been won by people from Paraguay,Colombia,Ecuador,Argentina as well people from Brazil) or was Ginola and Berkgamp English Footballer of the year when they won awards in this country ?
