If it wasnt on MOTD then he missed it.

I thought Lucas was pretty good in the Olympics and held his own against Portsmouth, though I think I sensed some nerves and indecision in his play. I agree with Sabre that Lucas looks is a work in progress who will be a good player and shouldn't be sold yet. Should Rafa sell Lucas though I am all for picking up Diara. He looked damn impressive and seems to possess unnatural speed with the ball at his feet.

Only seen 40 mins of highlights on the website plus listened to the game. It seems Lucas is getting a bit of a slating for his performance last night. Here is what the man himself had to say "I feel I have adapted to English football and I can play much quicker in games now.

"I was getting into the box and also had a few chances to score against Portsmouth, so I am happy and I am trying to improve every day.

"I think it was my best performance for the team."

He wasn't bad at all scott, was ok! just showed some good passes, but didn't influence the game like a top player would do.

I dont think he will ever be a top player mate - think he will be our Darren Fletcher - comes into the side when needed and does a decent steady job . The guy still learning the game . Think a lot of people expect a lot from him on the premise that he is brazilian .

I expected more from him on the basis not just that he's Brazilian, but when we signed him, he was the Brazilian footballer of the year!

Romario, Robinho, Kaka have all won that award in the recent past, so you should be expecting a bit more no?

Lucas is a plodder as I've said before.

Brazilian Footballer of the year playing in Brazil - seeing as most of the top Brazilians play outside that league its not something to get carried away with . Romario etc all attacking forwards something which lucas isnt .

He wasn't terrible but if he's satisfied with that performance he'll never be good enough.  I struggle to see what he adds to the team.  At his best he is solid.  Oh, and what his quotes fail to mention is that he completely bolloxed up his free header in the box and kept hoofing the ball away at the end when we needed him to put a foot on the ball, keep possession and relieve pressure.

But your original point is that people expected too much because he was Brazilian.

I'm explaining why some people (me and others) might have expected what they did, and why he hasn't met them.

well havent seen many people mentioning about Brazilian league Player of the Year in regards Lucas - well eleswhere by the odd person i have .

And would rather Judge a player and what i see on the pitch for us and country as opposed to any awards given .

When you talk about people's expectations, which you were, you go on what you know from the past that set those expectations out in your mind.

That's all I was saying.

Now I've seen him play, I can see my expectations were wildly off the mark as he is indeed average. Must have been a poor year for Brazilian football in 2006 I guess.
