Lucas is solid, especially for his age. Give him some time, a few games here and there and I'm sure we'll see the fruits after a couple of years.

I don't think he's solid yet, but I agree the rest of your post, Spartan.

Everybody here tend to agree that we should stick to the stronger players. In midfield you have Gerrard, Mascherano and Alonso. We cannot ask Lucas at 21 to compete with them. We can't see Alonso, Mascherano and Gerrard playing at their best and then ask to Lucas to replace their level after 4 games without playing much.

I'm pretty sure that if he leaves, he'll become a good player somewhere else, a bit like Sinama Pongolle but in a midfield version. Young player that can't have more games due to competition with better players at the moment, and that gets experience progresively.

We don't need another class CM because we have a lot of quality there. We shoudn't buy yet another youngster to play the odd game if we still haven't finished our job with Lucas. Let him time to progress, not every success is an inmediate success.

I'm sorry mate but I dont want to see the fruits, hell even the Pineapples at this stage. I want to see a composed player who will bring true quality to the table of a title chasing team, instead of mediocre and scratchy performances. And if it hasnt happened now for him, I doubt it will ever do at least at Liverpool anyway.

Oh BTW Welcome to the forum Spartan.  :)

As Sabre mentioned though we can't hope to really get a player leaps and bounds ahead of Lucas as they'll see little game time and will move off to another club. We already have a class act central midfield so having a player like Lucas who will thrive off being around these players and develop into a better player is nessesary. I'd prefer to hold onto what we've got, nurture and help the player grow than have a high squad turnover of players unhappy due to lack of game time.

Lucas's performances have been fluctuating though but he has shown glimpses of what he can do (that goal against Havant and Waterloo? was outstanding) and if he can keep his performances on the rise he should turn out ok. A thought though, we do have Pliess and I'd like to see more of him as well...

Actually, I think Lucas is a good enough 4th choice at the moment but I think he has little to offer based on his attributes. I might get slated for this but all he does is fouling people and back pass. He can't make a long pass, no speed, no power and I know he is young. But ever since his transfer, I really don't see any progress. I watched the olympics as well when he played. It was not pretty to see. Anyway, just hope he can improve in some of those area as time passes but I think he is more suited to the Italian league. I personally think he is average at best and doesn't have much upside. Hope I'm wrong but time will tell.

Lucas has taken over from Kuyt on my list of players I want to get rid of, I just don't see what he brings to the team at all.  He lacks any imagination, he is nervous with the ball, his passing is average, in short he is a very very limited midfielder who would struggle for a regular place in any of the prem sides, and I don't particularly give a :censored: if he's in the brazilian team or not, if he doesn't do the business for us then he shouldn't play.

maybe you missed him last night then playing quiet a number of decent balls and keeping possesion ticking over nicely while also creating space for himself to have a header on goal .
