LIVERPOOL VS NEWCASTLE - The season starts here

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Scottbot » Mon Sep 18, 2006 12:55 am

Can't really bring myself to read or comment in the chelsea thread because it's likely to be full of the usual emotionally charged cries calling for this formation or that and no doubt a fair few shouts of 'the league title is off for this season'. I was very dissapointed with the first half performance today when the lads simply didn't try to keep the ball but the second half was a big improvement. However a MASSIVE plus today was Arsenal's result at Old Trafford which means the Redmen are no further away from 1st place (i'm not even looking at Pompey) than they were on Sunday morning. I don't see Utd or Chelsea running away with it this year so anyone throwing in the towel this early in the season is simply nuts.

My only trip to Anfield last season was the home win against West Ham which triggered the 10 game winning streak that turned our season on it's head. I remember the talk on this board at that time was much as it is today (and this past week)

The way i see it, we have just got 2 of our 4 most difficult away fixtures out of the way (ok we lost them both) as well as our most difficult away tie in Europe (PSV), the mancs slipped up today, i've got a ticket for Newcastle on  Wednesday and another 10 games winning streak could be just around the corner.

Newcastle to get a 3-0 kicking

I really hope you are right mate. I fancy us to score a few in this game, heres hoping!

Kuyt and Bellamey to start against his old team, he will be well up for it and get Gerrard back into the center

I reckon we can give the barcodes a bloody good shoeing. Here's my formation:

==========Reina==========
................................................
.Finnan....Carra.......Agger....Aurelio.
.................................................
...................Alonso......................
Pennant............................Gonzales
...................Gerrard.....................
..................................................
..........Bellamy...........Kuyt.............

Just to make sure the 3 points are in the bag, I'd give Bellamy a full can of pepper spray and hand him a note saying that Titus Bramble told the linesman he was offside.

to be fair we played quit well against chelsea but dont you just know rafa will change things against newcastle leading again to uncertainty in the team, lets just hope he has learnt from that and keeps a stable team for a few games like he had to last season.

i really thought for a man of his calibre that he would have remembered last season.

anyway if there are not too many changes i think we will be too strong for newcastle, but we really have to start putting the goals away, it doesnt matter if we create 50 chances, we have to take some of them for them to count

Newcastle won't be pushovers...(they just beat west ham away).

But, if rafa doesn't rotate too much (i think to play the same team is asking too much of rafa   :p ), we shouldn't have any problem beating newcastle.

This would be my team (ie..picking all the form players).

                            Reina
     Finnan     Carra     Agger     Warnock
     Pennant    Gerrard    Sissoko  Garcia/zenden
                   Crouch
                                Kuyt

- I am picking Garcia/zenden (Can't make up my mind) becos i think gonzales is not ready to start matches at the moment
- Drop Alonso and bring him on later for sissoko.
- Bring on gonzales, bellamy later in the match to hit newcastle on the counter (if everything goes according to plan).

Its seems that 4-4-2 systems not working for Liverpool .... We have to go back to the basic, hope the RAfa will play 4-5-1 .... SG must play in the CM, with Alonso and Sissoko ......

5-0 Liverpool win ...

Well for all you stat-fans, it's 90 games since Rafa named an unchanged side, which includes the unbeaten runs and all the clean sheets.

Just thought you'd like to know.

the problem is with a number of changes mate, changing one player is not too harmful, changing four or five is suicidal

and i just noticed this is my 4500 th post and every one of them is a gem

This might be a tough match.

Newcastle have got some good players, especially Craig Bellamy.

Liverpool's defenders have got to keep an eye on him.

You've heard the expression "where there's a will there's a way"?

Manhattan would like to amend that.

Here is a better version:

"Where There's A Titus Bramble, There's A Way.....To Score A Goal".

I would love to see this formation:

                               Reina
Finnan            Carragher     Agger         Aurilio
                            Alonso
               Gerrard              Sissoko
Pennant
                                                      Bellamy
                         Crouch

*Bellamy playing a wide striker role, like a winger that cuts inside too much.  Sort of like the role that Cisse took on (except Bellamy can cross and shoot with both feet).
*We could revert to a simple 4-4-2 by bringing on Warnock or Gonzalez for Alonso/Sissoko and Bellamy moved to striker.
*Kuyt to come on at 60th, no later.  IMO we have been bringing on our impact players too late.  15-20 minues isnt enough to get into the game.

We need to get some confidence back into our strikers, we need goals.  I think that this game will be scrappy but we should win it.
